Other sports

Didn't know where to put this one... I am not sure if we already have a thread like this...

Anyway, Denis Menchov won the toughest stage of the Dauphine Libere cycling race, which finished at the top of the Mont Ventoux, a very nasty climb. He is currently 2nd at the general classification, 28 seconds behind the leader.

I decided to dig up this magnificient thread that drew so much attention in the past...

The reason is again Denis Menchov, who won the toughest stage of this year Tour de France, going over 5 very tough climbs. If I am not mistaken, Menchov is now 3rd in general classification with not little chances for overall victory.

It looks better if it remains to be called "Other sports" IMHO.

Isn't he Men'shov? Or "Menchov" is what is written on his back?

On Tour official site they refer to him as Menchov. Dunno if it is correct or not...

His surname sounds as "Men'shov". That's all I can say. I don't know if in French it must be Menchov or not.

Now don't be so harsh Evgenia, I don't like our sportsmen names pronounced badly either, so Olga is right to point that out.

Two Russian olympic champions from athens failed a drug test this month and should now face a two year ban.

Natalia Sadova,32 years, women's discus olympic champion, and Dmitry Berestov, men's 105 kg class olympic champion in weightlifting....btw this was the only gold medal for Russia in male weightlifting in the last olympics.

On today's stage of the Tour de France, which went over two extremely difficult climbs and finished at Alpe d'Huez, Menchov suffered a little bit, but he showed a real class and fighting spirit when he limited the damage to less than 1 minute behind the overall leader. Menchov is now 4th in general classification with just over 2 minutes behind yellow jersey... Hold on Denis!
