If that's what Rowett's implying, I think it's a bit silly of him, because what company of Derby County's size doesn't have a chief executive?

What I meant was directly replaced, he has already been replaced...

Derby County have appointed Chief Operating Officer John Vicars and Chief Financial Officer Stephen Pearce as directors.

Both will work behind the scenes, rather than having their faces in front of the camera like Sam Rush and Rowett will be in charge of transfers.

Ah, OK. They've said that Rowett will be in charge of transfers, then, but I bet he won't be in sole charge of them.

Quality signings welcome, as long as they don't include Jackson Irvine (COYB!).

Interested seems to have ended Whelan, looks likely to go to Villa. Hope we're still in for Ledley, if we fail to get him, that's when a move for Irvine could be a real possibility.

Done deal, all of our attacking flair has gone. Hopefully we will have some more coming in

Very quiet on the transfer front at the moment, id like to think we will have some of that money from Hughes & Ince to spend.

Deal agreed with Middlesbrough for Cyrus Christie. 2.5 million plus sell on clause. Good bit of business, good price and if Christie actually managed to get some football nous to go with his athleticism and be a success at boro, we'd get more money.

Wisdom, with Baird as cover at right back made this a no brainier.

Rowett has said in an interview there is still plenty more business to be done.

At the moment we are being heavily linked with Leicesters Tom Lawrence, who impressed on loan at Ipswich last season. Depending on the source the price tag is anything from 4-7 million.

Brentford's Jota also linked, believe we have enquired, but with premier league interest, obviously if an offer comes in from there, we will likely miss out.

And finally old academy product Tom Huddlestone is being linked, someone to play with and/or cover Thorne? At a reasonable price I wouldn't mind it.

First game of pre season tonight, against Kidderminster Harriers, who are managed by John Eustace.

First thing I'll be looking for is what formation we line up with.

Ran out 4-0 winners over Kidderminster, looked a fairly steady first pre season game. 2 different line ups for each half, playing the 4231 formation.

Absentees, Thorne, Shackell & Lowe through injury and Rawson, not sure if he's injured or his days at the club are numbered.

Also sad to Ince leave, been a real bright spark for us the past couple of seasons. Hopefully there are some exciting signings lined up.

Yes, a fairly comfortable outing. Looks like 4231 could be the way forward, which is what I thought/hoped.

Would be nice to have a fully fit George Thorne in one of the DM positions against Sunderland, but might be a tad optimistic, and there's no sense in rushing him back, make sure he is ready first.

After the first look at the team last night, I think the first choice team at present looks like this...

Carson

Wisdom Keogh Davies ?????

???????? Butterfield

Russell?? Nugent/Vydra ??????

Martin

That's 6 places I think are almost certain, Butterfield the most questionable, but if Thorne is missing we definitely need his passing ability in their, I actually quite like the idea of a Thorne/Butterfield partnership.

The left hand side of the team is very much up for grabs, young Callum McDonald impressing last night and throwing his name into the left back discussion as well. At the moment Russell will be in one of the 3 positions behind Martin, Vydra should be, but needs to find form and confidence and though I'm sure Nugent would prefer to be the striker, he's looked capable of playing behind the main striker.

Which clearly shows, why we are being linked with players like Jota and Lawrence, that's the player we need. Arguably 2. Then the fitness of Thorne depends on whether another DM is needed, but if we do sign one, I'd expect maybe 2 out of Johnson, Bryson & Hanson to leave. Otherwise that's 5 players for 2 positions, plus Baird and Wisdom who can play there.

Rumour going round that Huddlestone has a 2 million release clause in his contract that we are willing to activate. That would leave us looking strong in the 2 midfield options.

Then I think it's definitely a winger/behind the striker type player we will be after. Lawrence and Jota would be brilliant, whether that materialises we will have to wait and see.
