Claude Davis

3 million deal agreed with Sheffield United, personal terms agreed, just waiting on him passing a medical and being granted a work permit, which shouldn't be a problem, he's been playing here for the last 4 years.

Should be a done deal today...hopefully.

I trust in Billy's judgement, as he proved with Steve Howard, he will pay a bit extra for a player he thinks will make a difference, and in the end, if he does the job and keeps us up, he will be worth every penny.

3 million is fair enough for Davis. he is a decent premiership defender.

Very strong in the air and in the tackle, he is a powerful defender who is capable of bringing the ball out of defence as technically he is wonderful for a defender. He reminds me a bit of Rio Ferdiand.

His weaknesses are though that he has lapses of concentration where he makes **** ups. Didn't he have a training ground bust up last season so could be a distruption to a dressing room.

He can play all across the backline so he should offer some options for Davies

well we help out the defense, but to be honest I personally don't know much about him, hopefully this 3 million doesn't bite us in the ass like Grenet and Bragstad

Well I read there's a bit of trouble with the work permit, becuase he didn't play the % of internationals bollox, seems stupid when he's been playing for 4 odd years.

CLAUDE'S SETTLED IN WELL - GAFFER
Posted on: Thu 26 Jul 2007

Defender Claude Davis has settled very well into life at Derby County despite not being cleared to fully begin his career until this week.

That's the verdict of Rams gaffer Billy Davies as he prepares to give the 28-year-old Jamaican his first taste of action in this weekend's friendly at Mansfield Town.

Centre-half Davis agreed terms on a £3m move from Sheffield United at the start of July but the deal couldn't be completed as he wasn't automatically granted a work permit.

However Wednesday's hearing in Sheffield gave him the go-ahead and now Davies the gaffer can't wait to see his new man in action.

"We were very pleased to put it all to bed because you never know what can happen," he told an interview soon to be screened on RamsWorld.

"In my opinion we have got a player who is coming in at the right age, who will be better second time around in the Premier League and who has great experience in his career.

"Claude has settled into the squad and the dressing room in a first-class manner and he is maturing not only into an outstanding human being, but an outstanding player too.

"We'll certainly get him involved on Saturday to get his match-fitness up and he will be looking forward to that.

"Claude has worked very hard simce he came here and we are delighted with the effort and commitment he has shown."

Agreed. I just read about that hitch, why should a Commonwealth person need a work permit anyway?

You can only come in from the commonwealth if your Gran was born in the UK, but anyone from the EU can just stroll straight in, something like that anyway. Bloody stupid, at least Davis is sorted though.
