Teams: Derby County, England and Ireland
With the takeover of Man City former Thai PM, Hong kong businessman to gain big share at Brum and of course takeovers at Arsenal, ManU and Liverpool, how would you feel if a foreign businessman with a bottomless pit of money came in for Derby with the aim of making them Euro Cup contenders? Lakshmi Mittal for example?
Whilst it has appeal i am more than a little concerned, and wonder what happens in the future if the bubble bursts and these people pull out. Some of these times are in for a fall from a might high place! Call me a romantic but I would rather Derby competed in the Prem by dint of good management, prudent investment and damn hard work. If they become a yoyo club so what, that is still better than worrying if the Tokyo stock market will affect if your belved club survives or not
I was very interested to read this on therams.co.uk forum.. ermm quite a relevant point I think in terms of the Premeirship as it people call it now the millionaire's playground!!!
As im quite a traditional football person.. and really value the heritage and history of English football.. I'm starting to feel as it's the teams with the money talking, rather than the players talking. Obviously people will think im jealous of the big teams but lets be honest here.. ever since the Premier League was formed in 1992 people feared that it would create a financial gulf between themselves and the football league!!!!
What do people think, would you welcome a foreign invester to take us up that 'next' level or would you like to be built on local ownership but just setting for bottom half and mid table obscurity??? :rollani:
