Pre Season Freindlies 07/08

PRE-SEASON SHAPING UP
Posted on: Wed 06 Jun 2007

An Italian tour is likely to provide the centrepiece of the Rams' preparations for the Premiership campaign, which kicks off on August 11.

Players will report back for training at the start of July, with Ilkeston Town and Stafford Rangers early opponents before the squad flies out to Italy on the 15th. It is hoped the tour itinerary will include a match against Italian opponents with Serie A credentials.

Away fixtures will follow at Macclesfield Town on July 24 (7.45pm), Mansfield Town on July 28 (3pm) and Crewe Alexandra towards the end of the month.

Despite reports in other media, there is no definite agreement in respect of a possible match against Nottingham Forest, nor has anything been ratified with regards to the date or venue.

However, a pre-season home curtain-raiser against opponents still to be confimed is likely to take place on Saturday August 4, a week before the first game of the Premiership season.

It is likely the Rams will be in league action four times in the month of August, on the 11th, 15th, 18th and 25th. Premiership fixtures will be released on June 14.

There's talk of a freindly with Forest

Not that their will be anything freindly about, and sadly that could end up being why it doesn't happen, would be a shame, we're not likely to be playing them in the league anytime soon are we

Back in the Premiership and back to playing a foreign team for the home freindly, Espanyol will be visiting Pride Park on August 4th.

To be fair, not a bad tune up for the season as I'm pretty sure that they just lost out to Sevilla in the UEFA Cup last year

MACC DATE SWITCHED
Posted on: Fri 22 Jun 2007

Derby County's pre-season friendly with Macclesfield Town has had a change of date.

The trip to the Moss Rose was due to have been made on Tuesday July 24, with a 7.45pm kick-off.

But it has been moved forward by 24 hours and will now take place on Monday July 23.

The 7.45pm kick-off against Paul Ince's League 2 side still remains the same.

The Rams will split their first team squad to play two fixtures on the same night later this month.

On Monday July 23, Billy Davies' teams take on League Two outfit Macclesfield Town at Moss Rose and Nigel Clough's Blue Square Conference Premier side Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium - both games kicking off at 7.45pm.

Rams will face Swiss outfit
Swiss Second Division side FC Chiasso will be Derby County's opponents on their pre-season trip to Italy.

The Rams will spend six days at their training camp near Verona and face Chiasso on Tuesday, July 17, at the Stadio Comunale Calmasino, in Bardolino.

Chiasso were managed by ex-Italian international Attilio Lombardo and finished fourth in their division last season. Lombardo, who played for Sampdoria, Juventus, Lazio and Crystal Palace, resigned last month.

Derby's pre-season fixtures start on Saturday, July 14, with a double-header against Ilkeston Town at the New Manor Ground and away at Stafford Rangers. Both games kick off at 3pm.

The first-team squad will leave for Italy the next day and on their return they will face three away friendlies in the space of a week.

On Monday, July 23, there is another double-header with split squads travelling to Macclesfield Town and Burton Albion (both 7.45pm). Derby are then at Mansfield Town on Saturday, July 28, at 3pm.

Derby are at Crewe on Wednesday, August 1 (7.45pm), and at home to Spanish side Espanyol on Saturday, August 4 (3pm).

We go to Italy to face a Swiss side

The first 2 pre season games will have kicked off, away at Ilkeston and Stafford. Will be interesting to see how the squad is splitt up, with no Barnes we only have 3 strikers, I'd hope one team has Howard and Earnshaw, and then wel Macken up front on his own and someone out of the academy.

Ilkeston line up

Camp, Eddie, McEveley, Malcolm, Leacock, Johnno, Beardsley, Pearson, Macken, Teale, Camara

Apparently we're 4-0 up Macken (2) Teale, OG

We're 1-0 up against Stafford, Parris Simmons scored, Howard, Oakley, Fagan playing, not got the full team for that though.

Finished 5-1 at Ilkeston and 1-1 at Stafford, the Ilkeston one obviously the better result, so typically Sky Sports covered the Stafford game

Typical that the game we did weill in has been completely ignored by the national press

We usually have some dodgy pre season results anyway.

The squad's out in Italy and will play Chiasso tomorrow, Stephen Bywater has a groin strain so won't be playing, and Claude Davis can't play until his work permit is sorted out, don't know why that matters for freindlies though.
