Teams: Hajduk Split, Derby County
Derby County FC will play Premier League football next season after a second-half goal from Stephen Pearson secured a 1-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion FC in the Championship play-off final at Wembley Stadium.
The Scottish international midfielder, who joined the Midlands club from Celtic FC in January, slid in a right-wing cross from substitute Giles Barnes in the 61st minute to ensure Derby a return to the Premiership, from where they were relegated in 2002. West Brom had a number of chances, Kevin Phillips hitting the crossbar with a long-range effort at the end of the first half and Diomansy Kamara, Jason Koumas and Paul Robinson drawing saves from Derby goalkeeper Stephen Bywater, yet the Championship's top scorers were unable to find the net when it mattered most.
"It's a dream come true," said Derby manager Billy Davies, who took charge at Pride Park last summer. "We've been underdogs for most of the games this season, we started way behind most people, but it's a fantastic effort from these players and a tribute to everyone at this club. It's an unbelievable achievement. We're absoutely delighted, this is what it's all about. The fans have to enjoy the occasion today."
