Player of the Year 2007

Well you can now vote on the official website too make the shortlist of 6 players, too go in for the final voting of the player of the year.

Even with my vote Matt Oakley has 0% of the votes yet Seth I've played about 3 games all season Johnson has about 4%...it really pisses me off how Derby fans tend decide whether they like a player before he's even kicked a ball and then no matter what they do that's the end of it...Seth is the new Kinkladze, he can come on waddle about a bit and do nothing and will still get the biggest cheer...

Anyway Player of the Season, it's a bit early for deciding, someone can make a big claim by doing something big in the last 7 games, but my shortlist of 6 would be...

Steve Howard - Matt Oakley - Dean Leacock - Stephen Bywater - David Jones - Giles Barnes

Gosh this would be argeuably the hardest year in a long long time, to vote for one outstanding player... I mean I agree with Jimbo its gonna be someone from those 6, errrrmmm I would possibly go for Dave Jones, I just think the guy is pure class, and really has helped us improve our midfield area this year!!

Yep Howard is the man most people are naming, would be a surprise if he didn't win it. he's miles ahead on the voting on the website.

Darren Moore named in the team of the year, only Derby player in there, not that surprised really, Bywater was the only other one I thought might get it.

Full teams in a thread in the main football league section.

reading my ickle book of Championship winning teams Peter Daniel was an average reserve player who replaced the injured Roy McFarland in the centre of defence and fans hardly knew the difference as he formed a great partnership with Colin Todd. After McFarland returned, Daniel returned to the second fiddle role. Kind of like the ultimate cult hero then

Yeah, quite surprising i''d never heard of him really. I read all about the 71/72 side in one of the Cloughie books I've got, never read anything on the 2nd Championship winning side though, Mackaay's team always gets overlooked.

Yeah, Mackaay's achievement gets over looked as well, everyone always says it was still Cloughie's team, which it might well have been, but other managers still had Cloughies team before and after Mackaay and couldn't win anything.

The final 6 shortlist is

Howard - Moore - Edworthy - Barnes - Bywater - Leacock

Howard seems to be the favourite,m they always do the run down of the top 3, I really hope Edworthy gets in there, he's been brilliant this season.

Striker Steve Howard was the toast of the Derby County Supporters' Club 2007 Awards on Tuesday night.

The Rams frontman polled the most votes from members of the Derby County Supporters' Club's branches nationwide to become their 2006/07 player of the year.

Rams boss Billy Davies and the entire first team squad joined over 350 fans for a tremendous evening at Pride Park Stadium.

Club chairman Peter Gadsby welcomed everyone to the event and thanked all Derby supporters for their "magnificent backing" before the awards took place.

The photo above shows Rams fan Martyn Kellett of the Derby City branch of the Derby County Supporters' Club making the presentation. Frontman Steve cheekily declared: "Credit to me and the rest of the lads for what's been achieved this season."

The trophy followed hot on the heels of the player of the year prize Howard picked up a week earlier at the club's annual Awards Night.

On Tuesday there were also well deserved awards, handed out by Rams stars, for a representative of each branch of the Supporters' Club in honour of their passionate support of the club.

But the biggest cheer of the evening was for manager Davies when he came onto the stage and told the assembled crowd: "rest assured these players stood behind me will be giving their all in the remaining two games to try and finish this job off and take the club into the Premiership."

Fully expect Howard to take the clean sweep.
