Championship top 50 players

Three Derby County stars have been recognised for their achievements this season with places on the Football League's top 50 players list.

Teenager Giles Barnes, scorer of seven goals from midfield - including numerous spectacular strikes - tops the bunch in tenth overall.

He is followed in 12th by striker Steve Howard, who is the Rams' leading scorer in 2006/07 with 15 goals overall.

And completing the trio is centre-half Dean Leacock, who came 22nd in the poll after showing himself to be a highly talented young defender in his debut campaign for the club.

The top prize as the best player outside the Premiership went to West Bromwich Albion midfielder Jason Koumas.

Great too see Leacock get the recognition he deserves, and surprise surprise too see Barnes topping the list, probably voted by people who have never seen him play, he wouldn't even make my top 5 Derby County players for the season, which at the moment would be...

Jones, Oakley, Howard, Leacock, Moore even Bywater and Edworthy coming in next, like Billy always says he needs to find consistenvy, he had a good start to the season, then a good run in November, and looks like he's started another good run, the rest of the time he's not been great, though to be fait it seems that he needs to be played through the middle to really be effective.

And I am a bit surprised that Patrick Kisnorbo or/and Gareth McAuley isnt in there. They've (unlike the rest of the squad) been fairly solid and consistent throughout the season.
Made his debut at Luton in November, plenty of time to make a judgement surely...

Jern probably has it right, and he's not had enough columns i the papers about evry club in the premiership trying to sign him either... Gareth Bale 3rd :rollani: he reminds me off Lee Naylor

More evidence to my theory, that the people who have made this list have never watched a game of Championship football in their life

Well he can't defend, so it's not that...it's like the re birth of Beckham, score a few free kicks and your the best player in the world...

Good too see Barnes. Howard and Leacock in there, do agree Jones should have made the list as well. Also think these things are done far too early, how can you decide player of the year with 10 games to go...themost important 10 games as well.
