DERBY v Colchester @ PPS 02.03.07

Oh good, a friday night game and the 3rd game in a row that is must win I can agree that losing this one would almost be a disaster though.

We played well at the start of the 2nd half at Sunderland mainly with Barnes playing through the middle, and I think that's the way we need to go.

Teale - Oakley - Jones - Pearson

----------- Barnes -----------

------------ Howard --------

When Barnes was moved out to the wing he became ineffective, he's not a winger.

We need too attack Colchester, recently I just fell we've tried to be too defensive, and it's cost us goals, time too push forward more....and most importantly don't let Michael Johnson step foot on the pitch.

Hmmm I think I would echo Jimbo's thoughts here, if Sunderland was a big game, then this is a Titanic game!!!, I mean I think if we did not go out and win this game, then everybody hope's would start to just winder I reckon..

This weekend sees the following crunch games -

Friday, 02 March 2007
Derby v Colchester

Saturday, 03 March 2007

West Brom v Sunderland, 15:00

Sunday, 04 March 2007
Birmingham v Cardiff,

Monday, 05 March 2007
Preston v Southampton,

Amazing fixtures really, and just shows how big 3 points will be for us if we can get them, with at least 3 of our promotion rivals guaranteed to drop points whatever happens.

Derby County are waiting on the results of a scan on Stephen Pearson's injured ankle.

Billy Davies confirmed that the Scottish midfielder has been carrying a couple of niggling injuries in the past few weeks.

Pearson played in Saturday's defeat at Sunderland and now has "major" bruising around the ankle.

"Our fingers are crossed that Stephen will be OK," said the manager.

Friday's home game against Colchester United may come round too soon for Dean Leacock who is recovering from a broken bone in his hand.

Explains Pearo's below par performances in the last couple of games, I some times wish the club would let us know these things, would save Pearo a lot of undeserved stick, and everyone wondering why he's not performing.

Bad news on Leacock as well.

Big game, we need a win, and with those other fixtures, suddenly everything could be looking rosey again.

Brum play Leeds tonight and can go top with a win, it would be a big surprise if they didn't.

1-0 win for Brum, not very convincing though, but their back on top. West Brom went all the way to penalties in the cup, so should be some tired legs for Saturday

TEAM NEWS

Derby: Stephen Pearson is an absentee after picking up a foot injury in Saturday's defeat at Sunderland, but the news isn't as bad as first feared as he has not broken a bone.

Dean Leacock is a doubt as he continues to recover from the broken bone in his hand that forced him out at the Stadium of Light.

Also on the sidelines are defenders Richard Jackson and Paul Boertien, with their medial knee ligament injuries.

Colchester: Boss Geraint Williams has no major injury or suspension worries to be concerned about.

THE REFEREE

Cheshire's Michael Jones gets a Friday night out at Pride Park for his first visit to Derby since January 2006, and a 2-1 FA Cup third round win over Burnley.

Jones is one of the most experienced referees on the Football League circuit with a career stretching back more than a decade.

He has taken charge of 28 games this season, issuing 101 yellow cards and seven reds.

The last time Colchester paid a visit too Derby, McFarland, Todd and Hector were on the home team sheet

We we're lucky to have the Sunderland match moved back to Saturday from a monay night as well, or it would have been 6 league games in a row that were weekday night matches, which would have been a disgrace, not that 5 out of 6 is not.

Run of fixtures

Stoke - Wed night
Sunderland - Sat (moved from Monday)
Colchester - Fri night
Norwich - Tues night
Brum - Fri night
QPR - Tues night

ridiculous

Worst thing is if you dont get all 3 points.
pisses me right off, Norwich was moved because of the cup game at Plymouth. If we stay up there you can bet Sky will stick there noses in for the final run in as well.

We need the 3 points badly and I think we will get them, 2-1 Derby Howard and Jones to get on the scoresheet.

Hmmm could you argue that this is the most important game of the season, because I think if we lose any sort of ground in the title race, I can really see us slowly slipping away if you like!!, I would take any type of win for 2moro just so at least we are not losing any ground on the top teams like Brum and WBA!

Good luck today, guys. I haven't followed the top of the Championship closely in the last two weeks, just watched the results but not the table, so your critical situation is a bit a surprise now. I hope you win that game. Maybe I'll watch it on the internet.

btw, why are you so pissed about a Friday night home game. In Germany we love such Friday night clashes.

Because some fools work friday nights...

Saturday afternoon is the traditional kick off time for football, seems the people running the game have forgotten that though.

Even with the Friday night kick off on Sky, still looking at a 27,000 crowd bollocks to Brum and the 15,000 crowds when the cameras are there, they don't deserve the Premiership

Lupoli scored and was back in the team. Maybe now his future is sorted out Derby may give him some time towards the end of his time here. Good to see him back on the scoresheet though and thats 11 now Great win for Derby aswell, much needed.

Just what the Doctor ordered

I felt in January a performance like this was coming, finally things going forward all just clicked into place, Barnes playing through the middle like he should be, and Lupoli on the pitch like he should be, and we put in a performance like that . . . typical that I had too bloody work though. I hope there's full re run of the game on Sky I can watch in a bit.

Like I said 100% November, dodgy December, 100 January dodgy February, another 100% month would do nicely now

completely forgot Derby played today!

anyway, nice win, especially off that terrible loss in Sunderland. Tomorrow now we will have to watch how the likes of WBA, Southampton, Birmingham etc.. do
