Doncaster v DERBY (@ Belle Vue - League Cup 2nd round)

League Cup 2nd round draw has just been made, had some strange seeding system to it, we we're seeded and could only play a non seeded team, which meant no chance of getting Villa or Everton etc...

Glad we're away, hate empty ground at home games in this, a winable tie.

I spose this is a very winnable tie, against a lower league team. Another win here would be nice, and hopefully get a nice Premiership team in the next round

Derby County's Carling Cup tie away to Doncaster Rovers will take place on Tuesday September 19.

The Rams will head to Yorkshire to take on the League 1 side at the Earth Stadium, for a 7.45pm kick-off.

It will be Derby's first visit to Doncaster since a 3-0 win in December 1985.

The two teams have met only once before in the League Cup, with the Rams securing a 2-1 win in the 1976/77 season.

Derby County's Carling Cup second round tie at Doncaster Rovers has been moved back 24 hours to Wednesday 20 September (kick-off 7.45pm).

The game, originally scheduled for Tuesday 19 September, has been re-arranged due to safety issues at Belle Vue

How does moving a game back 24 hours make it more safe??

You can guarantee it's Derbyshire police's doing, they seem to be off the opinion, everytime we play a team from Yorkshire, all our fans go with the intention of starting a riot, similar things happen when we play Leeds, Hull, the Sheffield's.

I wonder if players will be rested for this game, Edworthy definately, think he's pulled a muscle as well, Michael Johnson another one, bring Moore back in for a run out.

He might want to rest Lupoli a bit as well, maybe give him 1 half and peschi the other.

Should be a tough game. Lupoli I suppose will be given a rest. May be a good idea to put him on the bench, then bring him on if you need a goal.

Definitely not so easy match like you Derby fans think. Have you forgoten what Doncaster did last year in the cup?

That was last season though

It's tradition for us too get knocked out by a lower league side, so I doubt many Derby fans will be taking the game for granted, even though we finally did manage to win a game in this cup this season.

Davies has said there will be changes for this game, no surprise there, Peschi, Seth, Moore, Smith, Jackson, Nyatanga, must all have a good chance of playing in this one.

Doncaster Rover v Derby County

Derby: Billy Davies's major injury concern is Marc Edworthy, who suffered from a tight hamstring in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Preston and was taken off in the second half.

Davies is hopeful that Edworthy will be fit but if not, Richard Jackson could return or alternatively Dean Leacock could move across from centre-half, with Darren Moore or Lewin Nyatanga going into the middle.

The game is Derby's third in a week, which may tempt Davies into making changes to freshen things up.

Doncaster: New Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll was without injured duo Alan Blayney and Steve Roberts for Saturday's 0-0 draw at Rotherham United, and the Carling Cup clash may come too soon for them.

Rovers took a squad to Sunderland on Monday afternoon for a behind-closed-doors game at the Stadium of Light and included Kevin Horlock, Anthony Griffith and Barry Williams, all of whom are on the way back from injury.

THE REFEREE

Northumberland whistle-blower Clive Oliver is the man in the middle for Wednesday's encounter.

Oliver has taken charge of five games this season, and issued 12 yellow cards.

He has only once officiated the Rams during his career - a 1-0 win over Plymouth Argyle in March 2005.

Well we can't go out untill tomorrow, but I'll be keeping an eye on the games going on tonight on teletext at work, we are long overdue a decent cup run, Big Steve Howard to continue the scoring run in a 1-0 Derby win

New Doncaster Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll is expecting an "interesting" game when his side host the Rams this evening.

The two teams meet at the Earth Stadium in a Carling Cup second-round clash with Derby looking to reach the third round for the first time since 2001.

For O'Driscoll, the game represents his first home match in charge since taking over and after Rovers' amazing run last season he is looking to get things rolling again.

"We have done the usual preparation of a couple of reports and videos," he told RoversWorld.

"Billy Davies has a reputation for playing good football and being tactically quite astute so it should be an interesting game.

"Again, he is in a rebuilding phase of his tenure as manager so I don't know how much emphasis he is going to place on the competition.

"The Wednesday game gives you a problem for Saturday as it is another day without rest, so it will be interesting to see what sort of a team he selects.

"But they have got strength in depth, some quality players, and the Arsenal boy (on-loan striker Arturo Lupoli) is a class act.

"I think all of our players are looking forward to it."

Rovers produced one of the most remarkable cup runs of recent years last season in reaching the quarter-final.

The League 1 side put out Manchester City on penalties, hammered Aston Villa 3-0, before being drawn at home to Arsenal in the last eight.

They were seconds away from reaching the semi-final only to be denied by an equaliser in the dying stages of extra-time, before being eliminated by a shoot-out from the spot.

And O'Driscoll, who took over at the Earth Stadium earlier this month after leaving Bournemouth, says the run just goes to prove that anything can happen on the day.

"Every game is winnable as it is 11 v 11," he said.

"I am sure Billy is aware of Doncaster's cup reputation - if it was only forged last year - so I am sure he is not going to come here and take us lightly.

"He is meticulous in his preparation and I am sure he is doing exactly the same as what we are doing.

"It will be a step up for our players to see if they can do what we want them to do against a higher class of opposition.

It's not easy being too optimistic with Derby in the cup, but hopefully Davies is the manager to finally bring us some success in the cup, prediction 2-0 Derby.

From bbc.co.uk

Doncaster's veteran midfielder Kevin Horlock (knee) may return to the starting line-up for their Cup tie.

Defender Steve Roberts (calf strain) is also available, but striker Bruce Dyer (groin) and goalkeeper Alan Blayney (gash on arm) remain sidelined.

Derby are hoping full-back Marc Edworthy (hamstring) will be fit.

If he is not ready, Richard Jackson could return, or Dean Leacock could move from central defence with Darren Moore or Lewin Nyatanga stepping up.

Edworthy should be rested anyway, why put those old legs under pressure when we have adequate cover, I hope Nyatanga starts anyway as well.

It's a night at work with my headphones in for me again, but at least we won the last 2 games this was the case, so hopefully it's a luck omen

Will be interested too see what the team is, when it's announced, anyway we're long overdue a good cup run, so a win here at Chelsea in the next round...

COME ON DERBY!
