DERBY V Southampton (@ PPS 6.8.06)

Early I know, but my season ticket came this morning, so the anticipation is building already

There's the Bolton game to get out of the way first tomorrow, then it will be full focus on next Sundays game.

Hopefully Ryan Smith will be a Derby player by kick off time, and maybe another player.

Got the makings of a "interesting game" which is why it's on Sky, with Burley as manager and Rasiak up front, Higgingbotham has been put on the transfer list though.

Southampton are fancied to do well this year, we know Burleys a good manager, and can get a side to the play offs, a win here would show we mean business.

Soton have now signed Rudi Skacel from Hearts for 1.6 million.

Too add to that Pele guy, of course Rasiak in permanent, Bradley Wright Phillips, Jermaine Wright, Kelvin Davis and Marcelo Sarmiento, and Burley still wants more.

Well, when he brought all the players in for us, it took us a while to settle and get going so hopefully playing them first game, we can catch them out and beat them.

Atmosphere could help us as well, if nothing else the stick for Burley and Rasiak is likely to mean there will be some noise for a change...

Burley has been busy, hopefully they won't have gelled together for this game, but I do expect them to do very well this season.

Jimbo's team to face Soton...

Camp

Edworthy - Moore - Nyatanga - Jackson

Bisgaard - Bolder - Idiakez - Smith T

Barnes - Howard

Team Jimbo expects to play Soton...

Camp

Edworthy - Moore - Johnson M - Boertien

Bisgaard - Bolder - Idiakez - Smith T

Barnes

Howard

For some reason Davies seems too like Johhno ahead of Nyatanga, and seems as Soton have a fair bit of pace, it could be a mistake if we do play with that back 4, Boertien is also slow, while Jackson is quick. I might be wrong though. Davies has said don't take too much into the teams that have started freindlies.

Hmmmmm In terms of the side I think will play at the weekend I think I'll wait until the day before, because we don't know of any new signings that might be coming to the club. I think I will wait with my team selection until Saturday afternoon folks!!!

Thing is, if the new signings aren't arriving until friday or saturday I can't see them being rushed straight into the team. We can put out a good first 11 anyway, the problem we have is the lack of cover.

Andy D'urso will be the referee apparently, he refereed Luton twice when Howard was playing, and sent him off both times

There are signs that Derby have turned the corner after a dismal campaign last time around which was blighted by a poor defensive record and too many drawn games.

The Rams finished a lowly 20th despite losing four fewer games than ninth-placed Norwich, conceding an unhealthy 67 goals along the way.

Their masterstroke this summer was to tempt Billy Davies away from Preston, where he turned North End into the meanest team in the division.

Expect to see that influence again at Derby, although Davies has yet to add to his defensive ranks.

His only signing to date has been the battering ram striker Steve Howard from Luton and the 30-year-old can be expected to weigh in with his fair share of goals.

Davies is also keen to persuade Southend to part company with Freddy Eastwood and, if he can, the Rams will potentially have the firepower for a top 10 finish.

Gifted playmaker Inigo Idiakez is still around as is Giles Barnes, a young midfielder with a bright future. He turns 18 on Saturday.

PREDICTED POSITION: 10th
STAR MAN: Inigo Idiakez
ONE TO WATCH: Giles Barnes
SKYBET ODDS: 33/1
INS: Steve Howard (Luton, £1m)
OUTS: Tomasz Hajto (LSK Lodz, free), Kevin Poole (released), Jeff Kenna (released), Pablo Mills (Rotherham, free)

Sky's Derby season preview, got some good things to say, even with the lack of signings so far, whoever wrote it, knows what he's talking about

Ryan Smith straight in on the left and switch Tommy to the right, wouldn't put Oakley straight in, but have him on the bench.

I wonder whether the 2 new signings will go straight in, maybe Bisgaard and Bolder will be given a chance first.

He may well do, Seth Johnson as well is fit too play, I think he would like Ryan Smith in too play on the left though.

a lot of excitement coming into this match and these new signings help big time, also that result against Bolton should give the players a lot of confidence. Although I believe Southampton are one of the favorites for promotion, Derby will steal the 1:0 victory with a late goal!

I fancy us too win, Southampton have alot of new signings, who won't have played together, we'll have more of a settled side, I'm going for a 2-1 win. Howard and Barnes to score. Rasiak will score for them.

I'm very excited, bit annoyed I'm not there now, like it should be, but one advantage of tomorrows kick off (4pm) an extra hour in the pub

I think we'll start off with a win, just the 1-0, but that'll be plenty good enough
