ESPN Classic

Durkos brought this channel up in the pub last night, I didn't even know it existed, so well done Durkan because I've been watching it today, and it's amazing.

Showing classic games from back in the 70's, which of course was our era, one of the games I watched wasthe 1976 FA cup semi final between us and Man Utd, described by the commentator as a game between the 2 giants of the 1st division

We lost the game 2-0 of course, which was a big disappointment, as really we were favourites, but it was great too see extended highlighs of it.

I also saw the home league game against Leeds of that season, most famous for Francis Lee and Norman Hunter fighting, was a great game as well, we won it 3-2 with a last minute winner.

Great times those days, how I dream we can be that good again

Anyway eyes peeled for more Derby games on that channel, too watch and remember the glory days we all sadly weren't around too see.

What a spot by yours truly:smileani: , brillaintly done

Not only the one game, but 2 games back to back. Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!. The Leeds game was just awesome to watch, not just winning the game, but on some of the football we played was very impressive, Archie Gemmil impressed me, his pace was awesome, and his distribution second to none, and Roger Davies, what a legend, what a finish

But the fight from that game, has to go down as one of the most hilarious fights ever to happen in a English game. Both Norman Hunter and Franny Lee were noted hotheads of the game, and I think it was brewing for a while, perhaps from the peno we were given ( which was a blatant dive btwp ). But the thing that made me laff was the Ref, only originally booked them for the fight they had. In today's game both players would have been sent off without question, and probably suspended for the whole season or summit!!

The Man U game, was bitterely dissapointing game, as My dad tells me we were red hot favourites to win the FA Cup that year, and you would believe looking at how strong our team was, with the England Centre half paring of McFarland and Todd, and the Scottish midfielder pair of Gemmil and Rioch.

Many people believe after that United game, the eventual decline started into obscurity, It wasn't until the mid 80's we wud have anyway near the success we had in the 70's

great find

just watched Eric the Eel's moment of glory in Sydney followed by Arsenal v Liverpool 71 cup final. Shame its mainly matches from the 70s tho and i take it most (if any) recorded division three and four () matches were rightfully destroyed

Saw the ad for Eric the Eel, would have watched it, if I wasn't out...

The only football on today, is the Man Utd semi final again

You wanna tell them too sort it out mate

And, I don't know, not seen any european games on their yet, but they might do them.

I know Neil said they used to do a similar thing on Sky, going back a few years now though, and that showed the European Cup game, where we beat Real Madrid 4-1 Shame there was a second leg really

doubt they would show the Velez Mostar game as Derby lost a big lead in the second leg of the game The Rams won 3:1 at the baseball ground but lost 4:1 in Mostar with a very intimidating crowd with a lot of sheep

but I do think Derby also beat Zeljeznicar in the early 70's

Starting too see some more teams on this now, though apart from the Derby v Leeds game, I've never seen a game which doesn't involve one of Man Utd, Arsenal or Liverpool...

But Villa, Southampton, Norwich and Stoke have all been on, City had a good side back then as well, you'd think they'd have them on.

ja, in the 70's (and 80's) Portsmouth was badly overshadowed by the saints. at least we (Forest) beat them in a league cup final.

"John Robertson was a very unattractive young man. If, one day, I was feeling a bit off colour, I would sit next to him. I was bloody Errol Flynn compared to him, but give him a yard of grass and he was an artist. The Picasso of our game"

They should have showed him in his Derby days, he must have played about 3 games before being replaced by John Gregory.
