Derby U18's

Derby County's U18 stars landed the FA Premier Academy League Group D title today (Saturday) with a 3-1 win over Newcastle United.

The Academy side is now through to the nationwide play-offs.

With one game left the young Rams held a five-point advantage over Leeds United - who had a game in hand - and travelled to Newcastle United knowing that victory would see them wrap it up.

The young Rams now go through to the national semi-final with the winners of the other groups.

Derby County's Premier League-winning under-18s face a play-off showdown with Aston Villa this Friday (7pm).

The two sides meet in the semi-final at Villa Park after winning their group stages of the FA Premier Youth League competition.

The Rams beat Newcastle United 3-1 on Saturday to secure their group title, with Villa notching up a 3-0 win over West Ham.

The play-off winners will meet either Blackburn or Southampton with the winning finalists travelling to Dallas next year to represent England at youth level.

Our reserves and youth teams always seem to do well, shame the first team doesn't

5-0 loss to Villa, not an impressive result but good run by the youngsters, hopefully some of these guys can break through next season

Shame it was such a bad defeat, Villa's youth team always seem too make the youth cup final...

But the 2 best u18 centre backs, and the best u18 midfielder weren't playing as they've become first team players, with Nyatanga, Barnes and Addison playing I'm sure it would have made a diference. Lee Holmes did play in the game.
