FA Cup 4th round - Colchester United

Get this thread started, for chat about tomorrow's draw, and then as the match thread when it comes around.

I know we're number 13, I think Burton and Man Utd are number 30.

Now then, I want an away draw preferably, so I can have a nice trip somewhere, it's got to be someone from another division, either Chelsea, Man Utd/ Burton, Liverpool Arsenal etc.... or someone like Colchester would be great, I tihnk they still have terraces there, it would be superb to go stand on one of them for an afternoon

It's alla bout whether you want the so called easy draw so you can get through, or the big money spinning draw against Chelsea etc...

And if you get Leyton Orient at home and then lose, it's all a big disappointment, and there's no big game at all.

I wouldn't mind Walsall away , nice to see the rams travel to the Bescot Stadium, so I can show my true colours at University.

But seriously, it depends how we view this competition, if we want to advance then Colchester or Leyton Orient, would be a good draw. But if we want to just get some money into the club, I would say either Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool. If we did get a big club I would try desperately to get back

I think it´s a good draw. It´s the away game you wanted, a nice old ground and good chances to get into the next round.

Then it will be a nice weekend trip for you. The next round is already on the last weekend in January. I didn´t know that.

interesting tie. Colchester are in good form, 4 th in the table, they have followed league win against us with an impressive away win against Shef. Utd in the cup. also they hit 9 pass leamington in the 1st round. should be an exciting match.

Thats a good draw for us. Lets face it, away to Chelsea or a big time like that would make no difference to our finances cause were already about 44 million in debt. A nice long cup run is what the club needs to lift up the spritis of the players and the fans, and getting the "easier teams" so to speak is just what we need.

OK draw but it won't be easy Derby tend to struggle against these lower league teams and Colchester are currently doing well in their league

Yes I'm having to point this out to a few Derby fans, in terms of league poitions there's only really 10 places between us, and the form we're in, in the league that could soon get shorter, they have Jamie Cureton and Chris Iwelumo, good strikers who are in good form, Iwelumo has 12 goals this season, and Cureton 7 from 10 games, we'll have to look out for these, I hope Davies is allowed to play or we're screwed.

We've been allocated 1000 tickets, and you have to apply by writing, as it's expected none will go on general sale, I had better get writing then

The FA Cup has thrown up a strange twist of fate for Derby County.

They have been handed a fourth round tie against Colchester United at Layer Road on the weekend of January 28-29.

The Rams played a part in helping the League One club to dump Sheffield United out of the Cup at the weekend.

They allowed Colchester to use their Moor Farm training facilities on Friday in preparation for Saturday's third round clash at Bramall Lane - a tie Colchester won 2-1.

Rams manager Phil Brown knows Colchester boss Phil Parkinson well and their goalkeeper Aidan Davison is one of his best friends in football, the two having played together at Bolton.

"One thing Parkie told me last Friday was that Colchester would not be out-battled by Sheffield United," said Brown.

"We know how tough it is to go to Sheffield United and it was a fantastic win for Colchester.

"You want to be drawn at home if possible. If not, you want to avoid a Premier League club to give yourselves a chance of getting through the tie.

"Colchester away is a tricky tie. They are sitting in a play-off position and pushing for automatic promotion. The pitch and surroundings will be difficult and so our approach to the game has to be right.

"It will be a difficult game but one we can win."

The only previous meeting between the clubs also came in the fourth round of the FA Cup in 1977.

They drew 1-1 at Colchester before the Rams won the replay 1-0 at the Baseball Ground, Leighton James scoring the winner.

Well Brown should know them well then, so no tactical blunders will be acceptable

Well it's not looking good for me, we have around 600 away season ticket holders, which only leaves about 400 tickets left, and they reckon most of them if not all have gone already

I think for next season I might have too pay a bit extra and become a platinum member, so I get priority on these sort of matches.

Well its not the nicest ground to visit, Jimbo and knowing our hopeless record in the F.A cup against lower league oppostion, I can't see us running away with it in colchester.
