Konjic

He was called up the NT for games against San Marino and Serbia, but we hear he may not be ready..he is having some trouble getting over an injury.

What do you guys hear? what's the injury, and what is his status?

thanks

To be honest he first had the double vision last season, and he's still got it now, he seems to be having real problems with it. And he hasn't played for months, and the last time he did, he looked way off the pace of the game.

I would think you would need to be desperate to call him up too the national team, though I suppose his experience could be good to have around in the squad.

It may be mostly a sign of respect. He really wants to play against Serbia, for obvious reasons. This guy fought in the war, and is a warrior, so you can see how playing in that game would mean a lot to him.

Yeah, I hope he can play it will be good for him. I'm just worried about his injuries, everytime he looks set to come back to playing, he has a set back.

Well, there is saying that goes "Konjic hits the ball harder with his head than most players with their foot"

Be nice to have him.

Mo Konjic looks to have played his last game for Derby County and the experienced defender's career is also under threat.

Derby are in talks with the 35-year-old about settling up his contract, which is due to expire in the summer.

A long-standing eye problem resulting in bouts of double vision has restricted him to only one appearance this season.

Three or four specialists have taken a look at Konjic and the club are acting on their advice.

"Mo has had all the medical advice he could wish for from the club," said manager Phil Brown.

"We have done everything we possibly can.

"The specialists have come up with the same answer and there is a suggestion his career could be over.

"There is an imbalance in his eye. The muscles at the top and bottom are causing double vision. Any kind of quick head movement is not allowing him to see a player or ball singularly.

"That is a pity because we have been looking for a third centre-back and had one at the club but he has not been able to play.

"If there is surgery that can help him, he can go down that line. That would be his call.

"We are in talks with Mo and his people about settling his contract and it is in the best interests of both parties that we come to an agreement."

Konjic joined Derby on a free from Coventry City in May 2004 but his 17 months have been blighted by injury.

Last season was one long struggle with a knee problem.

His one game this season came against Grimsby Town in the Carling Cup, taking his final total for the Rams to 19.

Konjic says he has no regrets about joining Derby and enjoyed his time here apart from the injuries.

He will now seek advice from specialists abroad before deciding his next move.

Championship clubs Crewe and Plymouth are believed to be interested in the Bosnian if he can regain full fitness.

Derby are also close to settling up the contract of 18-year-old Chris Turner who has progressed through the Academy.

The tough-tackling midfielder or defender has never appeared for the first team and is not in Brown's plans.

He has recently had trials at Exeter City and Mansfield Town.

In September, Turner and Rams striker Marcus Tudgay were both cautioned by the police following an assault on a 19-year-old in the city centre in the early hours of a Sunday morning.

Brown says parting company with Turner is purely a football decision.

I've had a feeling I would be hearing this news for sometime, if your eyesight is knackered, you just can't play football, it's sad for Mo, he's had a terriblr time with injuries, it's never good, to be told when to retire, rather than do it when you want too. He may play again, but it looks like not for Derby County.

Well if this is the case, it can only be a good move, we could perhaps use his wages to get Thome on a permanent deal?, seems quite a sensible option to me!

I would think that is the plan.
