Yeah, exactly. Losing such a symbolic piece of history is a huge pity.

Dont want to dilute mali's thread but wanted to check if my guide in Dresden was lying to me.

Here is what I found on the net:

Frauenkirche - reconstructed on the money of a London-based charity fund

The Zwinger Palace - rebuilt on Soviet money in the 60's

The Saxon State Opera House (Semperoper) - reconstructed on Ossie money in the 80's.
Quote:
Once again, it was Dresden's residents who drove the campaign to rebuild the Semperoper, and they collected 1.5 million East German marks. Restoration work began in 1974.

Also the Ossies cleared up the mess in the late 40's after the end of wwII. It was free labor of volunteers I guess https://mashable.com/2017/01/28/rebu...n/?europe=true

Nice gallery in Daily Mail btw: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...al-centre.html

1.5 million DDR marks lol, that‘s worth about 0.0 units in real money

also lol at „in the 80s“, that‘s when FJS gave them the legendary Milliardenkredit (1 billion D-mark west), how likely is it that the Semperoper was actually built up from that money?

mega lol at „free labor of volunteers“ in the DDR

Big games are easy than the other games, unfortunately. Every times we have the control the games, under the control the games, during the games we had the some possibilities, some big chances, some big okazyons, something like that but what can I do, sometimes? And….it’s the football, that’s the football, something happened. Everything is something happened. - Fatih Terim

Capitalism is not the problem; greed, however, will do for us without exception.

It would be good to see some serious, no-strings-attached generosity out there.
