Benfica vs Porto

This big derby is about to start, 20.30 GMT , and we are hosting it, at our wonderful Luz Stadium

over 63.000 fans are expected , and here are the starting line ups:

For Benfica, Rui Vitória has chosen to start the following players:

Júlio César;
André Almeida, Lindelof, Jardel , Eliseu;
Pizzi, Samaris, Renato Sanches , Gaitán;
Jonas , Mitroglou.

subs:

Ederson; Sílvio, Nélson Semedo, Salvio, Carcela, Talisca , Raúl Jiménez

lizandro is still injured ( aswell as luisão )

Gonçalo not in the becnh...cant say i like it ..is salvio fit enough?

Rui is not making changes from the last couple games and well imo, this is currently our best 11, and its what we have to play. There are quality options in the becnh , that can be played if and when needed so, we just have to give it our best

its a crucial game, a win grants us the 1st position is kept, and Porto to stay 9 pts behind, and we cant miss that chance

For Porto, this is the starting line up chosen by José Peseiro:

Casillas,
Maxi Pereira, Chidozie, Martins Indi, Layún
Danilo, Herrera, André André, Brahimi
Corona ,Aboubakar

maicon and marcano are injured

subs: Helton, José Ángel, Rúben Neves, Sérgio Oliveira, Varela, Marega , Suk

lets go Benfica, lets win this game!!!!

HT 1-1

benfica scored 1st from mitroglou (great pass from sanches and a cold finish from mitro), and porto tied with herrera in porto's only shot on goal

so far great game, fast, exciting, with plenty of goal chances, but mainly from benfica...we are missing wayyy too many chances...2 defenses from casillas ( one was very good after pizzi's shot) , with mitro failing an open goal, and samaris another almost as open

we have to keep it up, , but pleas please......get the ball in the net my lovelies

need to pay attention to porto's ball possession, becoz they are risking way less, and we dont want "accidents" to happen

ball posession
benfica 54% porto 46%

shots on goal
benfica 3 porto 1

overall shots
benfica 9 porto 3

corners
benfica 3 porto 0

I thought that was a fairly even first half. Benfica out of the blocks like a greyhound. Looked very dangerous when Pizzi and Gaitán got on the ball and joined in with the front two. Plenty of chances and I guess a bit wasteful overall but if the chances keep coming at the same pace there will be more goals for sure.

Renato Sanches' pass for Mitroglou was great. Took the Porto defence out of the game completely. Apart from that I thought he was a bit on the quiet side. He looks "up for it" but is getting lost.

Porto slow at the start but rallied well after Herrera's great strike. Brahimi came more into the game and I get the feeling that Maxi Pereira loves playing in this atmosphere.

oh im so sad

very frustrating

missing goal chances again in the 2nd half, and porto scores 1 out of 2.....and wins 1-2...soo frustrating

truth be said, after porto's 2nd goal we had again 2 chances to score and then rui vitoria makes 2 subs that went really bad....smarais and pizzi out for talisca and carcela....if i can agree with carcela for samaris ( we are losing and need to score), i cant agree with talisca for pizzi.....talisca has been utter crap this season, and tonight he showed it again

but thne something absurd happens...a player who hasnt played a single game yet enters....salvio for eliseu alm:....carcela should have entered for eliseu, not salvio

rui messed up big time in the subs, and peseiro won in that aspect

missed too many goal chances tonight, casillas was huge, with a handfull of great defenses , and we lose 2 games in the league for porto this season, which means we are now 3 pts ahead of them, and if sporting wins tomrrow....we lose 1st place

bad result, very frustrating after such a promising game during 75mins

oh well....lessons to be taken, and need to keep it up

stats:

posession
benfica 58% porto 42%

overall shots
benfica 13 porto 8

shots on goal
benfica 5 porto 3

corners
benfica 9 porto 3

goalkeepers defenses
benfica 1 porto 4

free kicks
benfica 22 porto 17

offsides
benfica 1 porto 7

fouls
benfica 16 porto 15

Casillas saved Porto's season, essentially. I did like the game, but hated the result. Open game, with various moments of good ball, if not incredibly tacticallly contrarian, as it tends to get with these two teams.

I'm not incredibly broken up about it. Benfica were a bit unlucky, but in my opinion were the better team, which was not the case when they first met.

Didn't know Porto had bought Suk, kind of a shame, he won't get the minutes like he'd been getting at Vitoria.

Agree with the critique on the subs. Bringing in Salvio was headscratcher. Not the game to give a guy his first minutes coming back from long term disability.

specially when we had jimenez in the bench and guedes watching from the stands....

i love salvio, but he needs playing time, and not in a game like that
