PL Week 19 Benfica x Academica

Good guys win 1-0!

Penalty in extra time by Lima gives us the 3 points to stay neck and neck with the clowns up north!

We hosted and beat Academica yesterday, Academica did nothing but defend the whole game and was punished with a penalty at the end of the game. Someone mentioned that Gaitan grabbed the defender too, I think it's a penalty and a team that defends the whole game cannot possibly complain about this:

To mention that there was another penalty earlier that it's usually called in the Blue stadium except when it's against the team in blue.

And here's the penalty from earlier:

Hands way over his head, hard to say it's not a penalty lol, but yes, we weren't that good otherwise and Kardec really sucked.

Nice try killa but you'll have to find sources a little bit less red tainted if you want to make yourself a tad credible.

As Pedro Emanuel very well said, if refs will call a foul every time players grab each other inside the box then they should really do it every time that happens. Of course Benfica couldn't lose points in a game like this so there's no surprise at all with the ref's decision.

About Académica's tactics I find it funny that JJ comes up with that card up his sleeve. He has a very short memory because during most of his career as a coach what do you think he did every time he visited one of the big 3 while coaching all the minnows he managed before joining Benfica? Pois.

In fact Académica's players didn't even kick the ball out of play or faked injuries that much when compared to many other teams that visit Luz. They frustrated Benfica because they were tactically very good defending and, because as you want to admit it or not, your team is not playing the same fluid attacking football as earlier this season.

JJ's comments about Academica were disgusting.

LOL, true that I shouldn't expect any credibility coming from such a source but my opinion stands, the pictures don't lie.

No way that the first penalty should have gone unnoticed, his hand is wayyyy over his head and i still think that if it was up north it wouldn't have been called right away.

The only argument would be if it's Gaitan that grabs or vice versa, if you can't make out and think they're both grabbing then you must play on but Academica's guy then pulls Gaitan to the floor, you can't get away with that much, easy penalty to call, had it been jackson or rvw it would have been a penalty too, I see no case here.

Academica did nothing to win the game, this game was painful to watch because of it, no sympathy from my end.

It is what it is man, they were exactly my same thoughts, it may look bad for our coach but it's true.

If anyone watched that game yesterday and said Benfica didn't deserve 3points out of it, then you didn't watch that game.

Academina parked the bus and the stats were so lopsided that you'd think Benfica was winning 4-5 to 0.

That said, the penalty was a penalty. No if's, and's, or but's about it. As for JJ's comments, there not anything more disgusting than the action's displayed with that club from the north as exemplified by their owner. Shit starts at the top and Pinto boy does that in style.

Filipe, get over yourself. Sporting is not in the "big 3." Hasn't been for awhile and definitely not this season to say the least.

I have a hard time defending teams that do nothing but play for the single point no matter who they play against.
