LS Round 14, S.L. Benfica 1-0 FC Porto

That's right fellas, we're one point up on our rivals from the north and might be down a good amount of starters for this one. If this game were to take place on a neutral side i would say that Porto would be a slight favorite since our team's a bit hurt, but playing at the cathedral makes us favorite.

Jesus has been hiding his cards for this one, said that Aimar and Ramires were excluded for this game as far as he was concerned but has called them up just like i thought he would, here's the list of players called up:

Guarda-redes: Quim e Júlio César.

Defesas: Luís Filipe, Maxi Pereira, Luisão, David Luiz, Miguel Vítor, Roderick, César Peixoto e Shaffer.

Médios: Javi Garcia, Ramires, Carlos Martins, Urreta, Felipe Menezes e Aimar.

Avançados: Cardozo, Saviola, Nuno Gomes e Weldon.

Not having Di Maria and Coentrao will hurt since they're both good left wingers, Urreta is someone I rate high but i fear that he won't get the playing time as Jesus is not a guy to test new stuff out of no where and i don't see him doing so in this game. My guess is that he'll start Shaffer on the left back and Peixoto on the wing, but who knows, maybe he saw enough of Urreta and will give him the start.

On the other side I see a team that was struggling over a month ago and plays totally different with Varela in the lineup.

I'm looking for a win tomorrow as we have what I consider to be the top 2 forwards in Portugal, Oscar Cardozo and Saviola.

Let's get them

Obviously not very effective when Jesualdo has been saying all week that Ramires and Aimar would be playing?

Just because they were called doesn't mean they'll play. This list is longer than usual and just means that JJ decided to keep his options open and have 24 more hours to decide if they're apt or not.

I can't imagine Ramires playing near 100% a week after getting hurt. It looked like a good one when it happened.

So Fucile is hurt and Saviola clearly puts his hand up saying that he's putting the ball out and Guarim shoves him.

Good game, guys. Congrats on the win, too bad the conditions couldn't present a better spectacle from both teams but that's how it goes. We'll get you back at the Dragao.

Very deserved win tonite, the ref failed to see a clear handball inside by box by Cristian Rodriguez but it was enough either way. No Aimar, Ramires sub par, no Di Maria, no Coentrao, Urreta very tired in the second half and still won.

Don't forget the straight red that the ref somehow forgave cebola. That guy is a class A asshole.

Otherwise I thought it was an easy game for Benfica. With a healthy team, Porto would have taken 3 at least.

It was. ESPN360 shows a live game a week. I don't have FIOS, but my carrier has an agreement with ESPN.

David Luiz was the man of the match. In a 11 vs 11 game, it's rare that I can point to one player and say he was the difference between winning and losing. Today, he put in exactly that type of performance. He was directly responsible for Saviola's goal and made several defensive plays to keep the clean sheet.

Porto did a good job of raising their game in the 2nd half. Frankly, I think Cebola's antics kind of threw them off their rhythm.

I thought ramires gave a very admirable performance. He ran out of gas in the end, but he had some quality plays in the 1st half. We missed Aimar on the corners especially. Urreta took a nice shot and hustled to win a couple of corners, but he was mostly lacking. Especially in comparison to the pace Di Maria brings to the table.

Bruno Alves spent 90 minutes scrapping and clawing with Cardozo.

impressive game of ours

total domination and control of the game, always keeping the pressure on the ball, playing mature, with intelligence and self sacrifice

a champions game no doubt, really proud of the team tonight

saviola, urreta, quim, to say only a few were top, but david luiz....what can i say, i just love this guy more and more and more every game that goes by, MONSTER!
