That's a shocking piece of news.

Horrible news!

Descansa em paz!
Robert Enke was not only one of the best goalkeepers that football in Germany and Benfica have seen, also on a personal level he was an open hearted, intelligent and entirely admirable character. His is a big loss not only on a sporting level.

Agora não, que joga o Benfica! (Deolinda)

I'm not going to get into this too much as this is too fresh right now, but a person who did what he did is anything but 'intelligent and entirely admirable.' He took his own life, leaving behind his family and loved ones.

It's so easy to judge others. What a pathetic comment.

Okay, why is it a 'pathetic' comment? Yes, of course, thankfully I have never reached that depression and hopefully never will, and yes it's a tragedy, but seriously Filipe... how is that intelligent or entirely admirable in the least bit? Please explain.

When Enke left Benfica I hated his guts but I cannot but feel sad and shocked by this tragedy.

Joshua, he had a disease which seems to lead to some mental instability and that might have been decisive to this outcome. Don't be so quick to judge without knowing all the facts.

What disease did he have, and if this disease leads people to kill themselves, why was he not considered "insane" and sent away for help? Doesn't sound right to me.

Don't know where I read it and don't feel like searching now. It's beside the point anyway, who the hell are you to judge him when you know nothing about his life? Nothing at all.

He lost a daughter. I know this - I have two children, if I were to lose both, I'd be done here. And I know I'm not insane or dumb.

I don't want to get into a personal scenario with your life as that wouldn't be appropriate, but imagine what you're saying would do to the mother of those children. I don't know if you're married, but it wouldn't be much different either way. The man this woman loves/loved and brought children into the world with takes his own life after she already loses her little one(s). Come on Pila, you're alot brighter than that.

So this means he must leave his wife behind to mourn the same loss by herself?

What he did is indeed a tragedy. I simply do not see how this man can be considered entirely admirable when he takes his own life and leaves his wife without both her husband and child on this Earth.

If this disease he had is determined to have somehow been the cause, I may revisit my opinion, but to imply this man was any of those "admirable" qualities is simply wrong.

You nor anyone else knew what was going on in his life, all we know is that his daugher had passed away, the rest is pure speculation.

The guy has just died. He did not make this decision in order to influence others. This is no time for after school special commentaries.

It has nothing to do with intelligence, stupid. The thought of having to cope with the loss of my two childrfen is too great for me to even consider. I'm not even comfortable talking about it. I'm done here.
