Best player season 2008/2009

the season is over now, and for sure our goals were hardly met...nevertheless it's time to lookback and vote for the one player that proved to be the best in our team this season!

just to let you know, this is a public vote and the poll will expire in 30 days so...let's hurry!

After such a poor season, not only in terms of silverware but even more so regarding playing quality, its hard to pick a player.

I went for Cardozo, as at least he delivered as forward

Maxi Pereira

Came to Benfica last year to play on the right side of the midfield, he was practically crucified for his poor performances. He was even almost unanimously considered one of the worst players back then. But, when he was tested as a right-back, he started showing his true qualities. He became an extremely solid defender that can still move forward on the pitch and serve Cardozo. He may not have the technical ability of some stars but, in my opinion, he was the most regular player of the season and thus deserves this consolation title.

Moreira! And his call-up proves his merit!

I've been sick of Quim and this season put me over the top.

Moreira should be our true #1. Why he puts up with Benfica screwing him over is beyond me.

I also thought Cardozo was our best player; not just for his scoring tally but the way he accomplished it despite being relegated to the bench for most of the season.

Aimar was easily the most disappointing player...

Put Rui Costa on top of the opposition's defenders and then come criticize his performances. Not trying to release Aimar of all responsabilities, but he was clearly played out of position and that has to be taken into account.

I'd like to nominate a pile of poop for player of the year.

Cardozo saved our arse! Though I was tempted to vote for Reyes first.

Hehe, sorry, I know it's been a while!
I will try to turn up regularly again from now on, not daily though but at least more regularly than in the past two years.

Definitely Lucilio Baptista- great acquisition and his efforts helped Benfica claim its only success of the season

but you should edit your post. Delete the words "of the season" and add "since 2005".

No matter how much you try to hide it, Lucílio has been your helping hand in the refereeing ever since I remember watching football.

I voted for Cardozo, but Maxi was a close second. By far our most consistent player. Just rock solid and whatever he lacks in technical skill, he makes up with grit and a formidable lung.

Well said, benfiquista!
