michel preud'homme

hi there,

i was asking myself, seeing i'm too young to know this guy,
was he any good , back in the days?

he's a coach now, for my beloved standard de liège team.
but 15 years ago he was still a goalkeeper.

was he on the same level as dino zoff, or pagliuca/peruzzi?

he played for benfica i believe. perhaps you people know?

Michel is one of the top goalkeepers ever so it's obvious benfiquistas still remember him and his out of this world performances.

I was fortunate enough to see his goodbye game in 1999 in a friendly match against Bayern Munchen and it's one of those moments that stays in your memory for as long as you live. 85000 benfiquistas screaming his name while he ran around the stadium applauding the supporters whilst a section of the crowd coloured the stands with a huge Belgium flag.

Unfortunately he played for us in a terrible period so he didn't get to win the league if i'm not mistaken. Too bad.

I've been following Benfica since 1994 and he is Benfica's best keeper during the last 13/14 years. Whoever is second is not even close.

Honorable mention to Poborsky at the end of Preud'homme's run at the Luz.

AXP's right: since Preud'homme left, it's been one "promising young keeper" after another - Enke, Bossio (ugh!), Moreira - but none as good as him.

What Euro was it that he stood on his head? '96?

Congratz

Well deserved With such a young, but big talented midfield, being unbeaten troughout almost the whole season now is a great performance

Well, his contract expires after this season, and talks haven't started yet as far as I know

He is the best keeper I have ever seen. I rate him higher than Buffon, since he had Georges Grun instead of Cannavaro and Nesta. A true legend, and a very good coach now too

He was the best keeper in the world in '94, if only Benfica had 4 decent guys.... That's when we had Nelo, Tavares, King, Perdao and all those second tier scrubs.
