PSL - Game 18 - Nacional vs Benfica

Here we go again, overtaking Sporting and ranking 2nd with 5 points to gather more then Porto will, the rest of the season.
Miccoli is on fire and scored both as Benfica win 2:0 on the island. Oh I love Nacional, they always give Porto and Sporting a tough encounter while Benfica tend to get all three from the meetings with the lads from Madeira.
For the rest of the season thus I wish the best of luck to my team from Madeira! Força Nacional!
E viva Benfica!

...miccoli is a great player but he had a poor game tonight

the 1st goal, was a good shot, but was half a goal from nuno, with a perfect assist...the 2nd goal was awesome though...he got past two nacional players, run half the pitch, and didnt loose focus when face to face with the goalie, awesome work!

we deserved to win tonight, but didnt play well. we had a terrible 1st half, with the team looking very tired and "confused", improved a bit during the 2nd half...but nacional made it easier by "giving up" after our
2nd goal, around the 70min

our best players tonight were luisão and simao, with petit ( very solid and that shot on goal was super) and nuno having a good night too. karagounis was ok, katsouranis had one of his poorest games tonight, he's clearly giving signs that his physical condition is starting to give in, hope this issue to be very well adressed..

miccoli scored the goals that we needed, one of which was a stunning work, i hope he recovers his physical levels, coz we need him in shape....maybe the goals he scored this week will boost him up, becoz until the goal he was totally lost on the pitch, lost and looking sad, we need him playing with the joy he got us used to

hope theres nothing serious with rui's injury...we need him, the team looks blind without him

now we have another tough game this week , got to start preparing for it!

If that was his off-day, I want to see him on his day.
Thanks for the match report, Ana.

hey dont get me wrong, im thrilled about his goals!

his 2nd one was awesome man, great individual play...but truth has to be said...and he was terrible tonight, other than the goals...and the fact is...in 3 shots he scored 2, and thats awesome, but he lost many balls tonight, and was nowhere to be found in the box or anyhwere for that matter during all of the 1st half, and up until around the 60min when the 1st goal was scored..he just wasnt there...and that cant happen, regardless of the goals he ended up scoring or not

hopefully being decisive , goal wise, in this game and on last wednesdays one will bring back our miccoli, the miccoli that works hard for the team and spreads joy all around

I didn't really want to put your judgement into doubt, I just wrote what I wrote because it sounds funny somehow when you say (or write in that case): 'Oh, the guy with the both goals didn't have a good game!'.
For sure, I trust in your judgement and believe and appreciate what you write about the game, I was just fooling around a bit.

But isn't that the point of a striker, Ana? :undecide:

Midfielders are for recovering balls. Strikers are there to take risks and score goals. He scored twice on three shots! That's clinical striking, so who cares about the rest.

Ronaldo scored 2 goals and 1 assist in his first start for AC Milan and he still doesn't move much when the ball's around him and loses balls.

So it's not a big deal for Miccoli to lose possession a few times, the point is to score!

Something he's _much_ better at than the beloved Nuno. :smileani:

Alot. We're running him into the ground like a horse. The guy needs a rest. He played in all 3 games alone we had this week I think.

beloved nuno gave him one goal to score, and beloved nuno worked all game long, something miccoli didnt

if a striker doesnt work, it implies the rest of the team has to work extra for him...if two strikers dont work, ur screwed

everyone in a team has to work, everyone defends and everyone attacks, the way in which its done is what differs
ball recovering starts in the strikers as much as attack starts in the goalie

miccoli did have a crap game and did score 2 goals, there is nothing incoherent about it

didnt benfica just played the best game of the season against boavista at home, and tied? does that mean benfica played bad? no

and yet tonight we played fairly poor and won...its footy

regardless, we have to point out the good game we had and build on it and point out the bad game and take lessons from it..only way we can
succeed on a regular basis

without stats at hand , i would say he has played every single game so far, league, cup and european competitions games...and the full game in almost every occasion

he is tired and its expected, specially taking into account the area of the pitch he plays at

If I'm not mistaken, 26 games so far and all as a starter, I believe.

Here's explicit information about Katsouranis:
http://www.transfermarkt.de/de/spiel...ungsdaten.html
(sometimes it's not up to date, but today it is)

The rest of the squad, with their statistics you find here:
http://www.transfermarkt.de/de/verei...tartseite.html
(you must only click on the players name and once your at the site of random player on the link 'Leistungsdaten' ... it says nothing about the Cup-games though)

I at first didn't believe it when somebody said during the preseason what a great dm he was (was it you, Covert?) but he has really impressed me since. Santos obviously knew whom to bring along.

The guy does everything you can ask for. Scores goals, assits, great and hard tackler, he can pretty much play every position in MF, and hes our backup CB..He is a true work horse
