Lets hope its a good game, exciting, played with passion and fair play, everyone having lots of fun....and benfica fans having the biggest smile at the end of the macth

usually these games (sporting receiving benfica) are won by the team which is in a worse situation at the time, so...given we are behind on the standings, and the lions are getting all cocky and all...i think the odds are on our side

That is what people say but in fact reality says the opposite. Today in A Bola they went through all the 144 previous games between Sporting and Benfica (independently from where they were played) and realised that from those, 55 were won by the team better positioned on the table and only 39 were won by those behind.

In any case stats in this game are worthless, it's all a matter of heart and between lions and eagles we know who has the biggest one :smileani:

Inacio do you think even if Miccoli is 100 per cent fit for the game(which i doubt) Benfica will play with him and Nuno Gomes up front? ,i think we will only play with one striker.

Using nuno assis, simao, gomes and miccoli in the starting line up seem to risk to me especialy with our defense so unstable and knowing that nelson and leo are more attacking players then defensive ones.

well kleb.....im not sure how fit miccoli is.....if hes fully fit yeh, hell why not? but if hes still under recovery...i wouldnt risk start the game with him....but would start mantorras instead, or kikin
i think we should play the 2 strikers yes, nuno as the "bridge" man

mantorras is playing well i think...havent seen him so well in ages, imo....he learnt how to hold the ball upfront, and pass it on...thats a big progress...we cant go there to defend ...we will get smashed

we have to control the midfield, put pressure, only way we can win the game. if we try to hold back...we wont suceed...we havent been able to in the games we tried to play that way

besides, sportings defense is their biggest weakness....we got to fight their midfield back to back...and push their defenders

also this could be the chance kikin needs to prove his worth...or his unworth ......if miccoli cant start...i would play one of them next to nuno..

Sir Alex spies on Benfica

Sir Alex Ferguson will travel to Lisbon on Friday night to get a close up view of next Wednesday's Champions League opponents Benfica.

The United boss will attend the Derby clash as Benfica take on local rivals Sporting Lisbon.

It is an ideal opportunity to see United's Group F opponents at their strongest when the two teams meet at Sporting's Estádio José Alvalade. “It will give me a good idea of how they will start on Wednesday," said the Reds boss. "They have got to play their strongest team against Sporting Lisbon in a local Derby."

Benfica are currently fourth in Portuguese Liga with a game in hand on Sporting, who are second behind leaders Porto. “It’s a great game for me to see," he added. "I don’t think Miccoli will play, but I believe everyone else is available. We’re not taking any chances."

I'm hoping for a Benfica win, because I don't really care about them getting three points. Sporting's a much bigger threat to Porto than this Benfica.

Gooooooo Benfica!!!! p

awesome

2-0 and a game under control

mom of the game...quim wasnt called many times, but was great everytime he was...rocha was awesome defending and scored the 1st goal, simao scored the 2nd goal...overall the team was very well, without exceptions, nobody failed tonight...but i think the man of the match, if there was one, was nelson..he has been having a tough season so far, but tonight he was superb the way he pockted liedson and nani says it all

i think a word of thanks must be addressed to paulo bento as well...taking out their best player during the 1st half ---> romagnoli, was a gesture of utter kindness towards the opponent team

BENFICAAAA!!!!!!!

MU is next :fero:
