Official CL Group Stage Thread: SL Benfica v Manchester United

Deja vu? We really didn't impress much in our first match against FC Copenhagen, however, we drew. Now once again we're facing Manchester United. Last season, we were the ones who got the better of each. Although, we split victories, we dealt the final blow to eliminate Manchester United from the CL. Now after a disappointing start to a league campaign, we must put that all aside and concentrate on Europe's grandest stage.

I really really really hope we kill you.

Not so sure that will happen tho.

1-1

Petit for Benfica

Ronaldo for United.

Nuno Assis is fit, apparently. Rui Costa, however, is not.
I'm guessing (hoping) that FS will mantain the same team that played the last 2 games, maybe with Nuno Gomes instead of Miccoli.
But I think he'll change it to play Petit alongside Katsouranis. Probably putting Assis or Karagounis on the bench.

Double blow for Benfica

Rui Costa and Nuno Assis have been ruled out of Benfica's UEFA Champions League match with Manchester United on Tuesday.

The clubs go head-to-head in the second match of Group F with United anxious to avenge last season's exit from the competition at the hands of the same opponents.

The Estadio da Luz side have been boosted by the recovery of centre back Ricardo Rocha, but will be without their experienced pair of attacking midfielders.

Coach Fernando Santos has Kostas Katsouranis, Georgios Karagounis and Armando Petit (pictured) at his disposal as replacements, but could also opt to change his system.

FC Copenhagen held the Portuguese outfit to a disappointing 0-0 draw in their opening match, so the fixture has taken on added importance.

What's the problem with Rui Costa?

Anyway, since the ManUre fans that i've encountered on this forum generally are a bunch of c*nts, good luck to Benfica on the night.

Thanks King_Henrik!

Rui Costa had some muscle strain a few weeks ago. He came back to play before he got fully recovered and got worse because of it. He started training, but while it's still not 100% sure that he'll miss the game against ManU, nobody is really counting on it.

Looking forward to see you guys in Lisbon.

Hihi, dont be such a soft mincebag.

Most of the United fans paid a lot of respect to Cuntic's performance.

How is Rui Costa ruled out if the papers today said he was probably going to play? Besides, i haven't heard a word about it on TV or anywhere else about this.

Edit: Forget it, looks like O Jogo confirms it. Damn it...
