Valencia Offer Six Years To Simão
The Chés are still hot on the Portuguese midfielder’s tail as a mega-offer of a six-year contract has been reportedly offered to Portugal and Benfica number 20 Simão Sabrosa. The deal would be worth a global 12 million Euros to the player – who could also raise this figure by meeting performance objectives as well.
It appears that Benfica’s ‘ruse’ of inscribing Simão in the Champions League has forced Mestalla into raising their offer as if the player is fielded against Austria Vienna then he won’t be able to play in this year’s Champions League for the Spaniards.
Dead set against the idea of scrapping both objectives – Simão wasn’t happy with the idea of receiving part of his paycheque only if goalscoring, assist and playing minute criteria are fulfilled – Valencia are maintaining their posture but offering a deal extension that would theoretically see Simão leave Mestalla at the ripe age of 32.
The first offer was 1.8 million Euros per annum plus 500,000 if he played more than the basic 25 matches plus an added 200,000 if he scored a determined (unreleased) number of goals. Simão’s refusal was met with the 200,000 being added to the basic deal as Valencia showed they really want the Portuguese international this year.
It appears that this is the Chés’ last stand for the player and the ball is now firmly in Simão’s court. Benfica boss Luís Filipe Vieira has, according to Portuguese sports daily ‘O Jogo’, agreed to 15 million Euros pus either Fiore or Kluivert on loan. The final chapter of the Sabrosa soap opera appears to be set for Monday.

Zanetti : I still remember my first day at Inter. I arrived with a plastic bag with my boots inside and I crossed the crowd of fans who were asking who I was. That's where it all started.....
