Rui Costa set for Benfica

Rui Costa set for Benfica Friday 24 March, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Manuel Rui Costa will bring his Milan career to an end in favour of a return to Benfica this summer, according to reports.

Although the attacking midfielder’s contract with the Rossoneri doesn’t expire until June 2007, sources suggest that he will move back to his homeland next season.

Rui Costa has made no secret of the fact that he has always wanted to end his playing days with the Lisbon outfit.

Benfica are now said to be ready to make that happen after another frustrating season for the Portuguese ace in Italy.

The 34-year-old is now a regular on the San Siro bench given the impact made by Kaka since his arrival three seasons ago.

Rui Costa spent three years with Benfica before he moved to Serie A in 1994 when Fiorentina netted his services.

The playmaker performed for seven years at the Stadio Artemio Franchi until Milan swooped at the end of the 2000-01 campaign.

Zanetti : I still remember my first day at Inter. I arrived with a plastic bag with my boots inside and I crossed the crowd of fans who were asking who I was. That's where it all started.....

two seasons ago i would be absolutly thrilled to hear this ..now?

unless he comes for free and with a reasonable salary, not worth it imo

besides, its probably just another rumour involving rui and his return to benfica...same thing every year

I think it is likely that Rui Costa will leave Milan after this season. He deserves to play while he still has some skills and I wish him the best of luck.

btw...have you noticed that if not for this guy's occasional posts Porto's thread would be as busy as Vítor Baía's Summer?
