Good thing we managed to turn it around in a couple of minutes just at the end of the game (Tiago and Sokota). That and Argel coming in to play as a forward were the only things that are worth saving from that game.
Oh... and the game was during the afternoon. That's so rare it has to be remembered.
Completely agree to what you say. It was not the match itself that was so brilliant to be remark- and/or rememberable. But it was exactly this hereby provocated feeling of being completely helpless and unable to prevent ones team from losing that made the victory a special one. Benfica was running towards Nacional's goals headlessly and their defence had an outstanding day and, thus our team seemed not prepared to still make the semi-finals.
Yet right into that awkwardness bumped that golaço scored by Tiago, an outstanding move and the match was tied again when the 20000 Benfiquistas spectating were already about to leave pretty frustratedly and few minutes later when everyone was prepared to see an extra time Sokota made it two and kept Benfica in the race for their first trophy in eight years which we finally won, another factor that made that match so special for me.
I reckon 'tis a subjective view upon it though and am aware, again to mentioned it, it was not most brilliant of a match but it gave me a thrill and emotions as I think Ernest Hemingway must've had them ever when watching an artistic and complete bullfight performed by Juan Belmonte or Joselito.
BTW: Have you been in the stadium in time? I remember having not even seen Nacional's goal because it took me 20 minutes into the match to wait at the ticket-sales. Too many people shared the idea of spending their afternoon with life football.
