Taça de Portugal, round 3: Benfica - Nacional

Here comes the revival of the Cup-quarterfinal of 2004 to which I have been spectator back then and still keep telling everyone it was one of the best matches I've ever seen, and later that day I saw Belenenses beat Estoril on penalties, what a day ... but that's a different story and our team is a different now and their team differs and predominently our coach is a different one
The match will be played at Estadio Da Luz, a circumstance of which we should take advantage and keep our possibilities to gain this trophy this year alive.
Quim would've been starter wouldn't he have snapped up an injury few minutes after receiving these news from Koeman.
I'd like to however see Mantorras being given a chance to show Koeman what he can do and bet he would.
VIVA BENFICA!

Agora não, que joga o Benfica! (Deolinda)

You gotta be joking me man. I was there too, and I never felt so full of rage watching a game. Nacional was a disgrace. They manage to score a goal early on, and started to simulate injuries and losing as much time as they could. And it all started to happen just 15 or 20 minutes after the game had started. Truly disgusting!

Good thing we managed to turn it around in a couple of minutes just at the end of the game (Tiago and Sokota). That and Argel coming in to play as a forward were the only things that are worth saving from that game.

Oh... and the game was during the afternoon. That's so rare it has to be remembered.

This season has been so up and down...I just don't know what to say anymore One thing that's very ironic is that we share many similarities to the club we are facing in the Champions League in a few weeks or maybe I should say the team they were last season. Liverpool fans said it best; "we'll win but we'll have to suffer first", seems like our style this season. Hopefully that winning part will be true for us as well

With that said, come on Nuno let's score some goals

i have to admit that i am a bit scared of what might happen

we do have that saying " não há duas sem três" , or like Lauro Dermio would say : " there are no two without a third"

let's hope it doesnt apply to football

Completely agree to what you say. It was not the match itself that was so brilliant to be remark- and/or rememberable. But it was exactly this hereby provocated feeling of being completely helpless and unable to prevent ones team from losing that made the victory a special one. Benfica was running towards Nacional's goals headlessly and their defence had an outstanding day and, thus our team seemed not prepared to still make the semi-finals.
Yet right into that awkwardness bumped that golaço scored by Tiago, an outstanding move and the match was tied again when the 20000 Benfiquistas spectating were already about to leave pretty frustratedly and few minutes later when everyone was prepared to see an extra time Sokota made it two and kept Benfica in the race for their first trophy in eight years which we finally won, another factor that made that match so special for me.
I reckon 'tis a subjective view upon it though and am aware, again to mentioned it, it was not most brilliant of a match but it gave me a thrill and emotions as I think Ernest Hemingway must've had them ever when watching an artistic and complete bullfight performed by Juan Belmonte or Joselito.

BTW: Have you been in the stadium in time? I remember having not even seen Nacional's goal because it took me 20 minutes into the match to wait at the ticket-sales. Too many people shared the idea of spending their afternoon with life football.

Mantorras not even in the team? I'm so sick of Koeman, he's slowly losing all the sympathies I once had for him!
Fora! Fora Koeman! Que se desapareca!

regarding the 2nd half, our last 20mins were terrible yes, but we had some good 20mins there, i can say that we had 4 clear clear goal chances tonight, and failed them out of bad luck (simao's penalty, luisao's header, alcides header, marcel's header).

and nacional didnt have a single clear goal chance so far....

anyways, the fans have been the best so far, great support

lets hope we can pull it through!!!!!

btw...i suspect marcel will be our 2nd beto....what a joke

YES!!!!!

damn it, that was hard

entirely deserved win, from the only team who tried to win the game.

leo was awesome tonight, and karagounis came 2nd. I hope to see him start next weekend, ahead of petit and manuel, and behind nuno.

BENFICAAAA!!!!!!!!!!

he came in at 80m, and yes he played very well both doing ball contention, making assists and having one great shot on goal. he scored the 3rd penalty in the end

marcel was pathetic...i 've missed most of the game with Leiria, so it wasnt enough for me to pass judgement on him (even though he failed to impress me in those few mins), but tonight, i was gutted...he played 1h tonight, and was a total disaster...terrible 1st touch, doesnt defend, takes forever to decide what to do with the ball and which action to take, and that shot after karagounis 2nd assist to him...wtf was that?!? i mean, he could miss, it happens...but his shot was so so displicent!!! lazy ass

once more, big up for the fans, they were awesome in their support to the team ALL game long, and in spite of the results and poor performances of last two league rounds
