MT 18: Benfica - Academica

The second half of the league season for Benfica kicks off today in Estadio Da Luz at 18.45 local time as Benfica meets Academica from Coimbra where they drew the first leg 0:0.

Here's as usual my line-up-proposal:

GK: Quim

RB: Nelson
DC: Luisão
DC: Anderson
LB: Leo

DM: Petit

RW: Simão
MC: Manuel Fernandes
LW: Robert

FC: Miccoli
SC: Nuno Gomes

Força Benfica

Agora não, que joga o Benfica! (Deolinda)

1-0 at HT, simao scored the penalty

almost fell asleep during this 1st half, very boring :rollani:

we either speed up or risk suffering a goal from a counter attack.....

our center midfield is playing too bad to be true...we either pass the ball backwards, or make such loooong passes, that no forward can get it

Robert was probably one of the worst players on the pitch. He played on both wings and his dribbles rarely worked; on the other hand he showed some quality in the crossing, even though those situations never caused great danger.

Yet finally a convincing result again, well and after all it feels great to see Simão on the scoresheet again as Nuno marches on to become topscorer finally.
Viva Benfica!

And as if that wasn't enough Porto lost to Estrela and now is only 3 points ahead of us. The title race is reopened!

Great to win, especialy with Porto lost...

But i am losing day after day my respect for the former P.S.V player.

Robert instead of Geovanni. :frustrat:

we played poor for most game BUT in the last lets say...25m we decided to start running, and ended up winning by a convincing margin

at last beto came out!!! lol i just couldnt believe my own eyes

manuel took a few mins to adapt to the game, but when he did, one could see how it made all the difference, as the team became way more dynamic.

i think geovanni came in well for robert...he seemed nervous through most of the game, although he made an effort, and i expect him to become a key player

manduca came in very very well from the bench ...i was pleased with koemans subs tonight, also becoz he decided to actually try and get us to score the 2nd or 3rd goals...in the past his option often was to sub in a defender...

we have a bench now, lets use it

btw, i was very impressed with estrela's game today! wow lol

manu played awesome, and semedo did too, wow
and what about tony? what a game  thanks guys

title race getting more and more exciting

Didn't watch nor hear the game but after reading the highly unsuspicious comments in your A Bola friend's website I see that the way is starting to be paved nice and tidy for your Bicampeonato...

A nice ball on hand at 5 minutes that becomes a "handy" penalty for lil'old Simaozinho

A cross by Nuno Gomes a la South Korea 2002 to give you another very helpful goal 12 minutes from time

Another great "handy" moment from the big Brazilian lad that should be playing basketball instead of the beautiful game

Well done V&V! I wonder how you did it this time...maybe slapping your way through APAV?

Hey Filipe,still remember Leiria.......

And about Luisao, you wish that you have a central defender like him in Sporting and not toneis,Polgas and Hugos......

We're finally getting to know the real Filipe Reis, the typical lagarto.
Here's a present from me...

nuno....

the penalty was very and i mean very clear
academica's player goes after the ball with his hand, im sure u will agree when u see it

the ref was also very well when he disallowed benfica a 2nd goal, since nuno was indeed offside after the goalie defended it...

however, danilo should have been expelled because for two times he failed to see the 2nd red card...nelo vingada as the good coach he is though, subbed him out after another tackle

as for nuno's pass over the line...its as clean as they come...i find it so pathetic to even question that the ball was in...but im not surprised some do...as i was watching the game i was going insane with the reporters.....at one point danilo hits nuno on the knee...a free kick is called of coz....well, after seeing it in slow motion for like 10 times from 5 different angles...they were still in doubt...finally! on the....11th repetition, they say " ah yes...it was a foul...oh but in our professsion we have to be very careful when we make a comment", for christ sake

but the best part was when one of them , at the 88mins goes like this "oh...its already 9mins into overtime!!!!" then he started going in circles about that...he spend well 2 mins on that one totally drunk i say, and these people get paid to comment a game :rollani:

anyways, finally on luisão's "hand", on this one i will take both opinions...the shot was made right on his face...and he clearly had no intention of touching the ball, besides he is a very tall player, his arms are higher than most players....he doesnt have his arms behind his back but neither does he have them raised...its so so...imo its no penalty, but i wouldnt curse at the ref if he had called for it...

i dont really know how can u even comment on something u havent seen, and when ur team has had a penalty called in each of the past 2 games ....

I have to disagree about Manuel, he wasn't a great improvement over Beto at all, IMO.

They've both been outperformed by Petit the entire season.

ana - thanks for your opinions which are obviously more valid than mine because you've watched the game and not because you are an unbiased spectator in this case...

nevertheless I feel that I am entitled to comment on anything I want as long as I respect people in here which I humbly think it was the case.

kleber - yes, I wish we could have Luisao...I am sure we would have liked to have a player with his ability to use his long arms in both boxes

lampiao maiato - you can stuff your pills up north.
