Matchday 9: Naval vs SL Benfica

Tonight is the night

Apparently it will be our first official game with the team from Figueira da Foz, and let's hope it's a successful début for us

The game will take place at 21.15 GMT, and TVI will be broadcasting it

These are the players called by Koeman:

Goalies: Rui Nereu, Bruno Costa

Defenders:Anderson, Luisão,Léo,Nélson, João Pereira, Ricardo Rocha, Dos Santos

Midfielders:Hélio Roque, Karagounis, Manuel Fernandes, Beto,Nuno Assis, Simão,Karyaka,Petit

Strikers: Mantorras, Nuno Gomes

According to Record, Karyaka is likely to start...makes sense, specially with Geovanni out, I think koeman may wanna try karyaka and karagounis together....

Ah yes! good news for all those Nuno Assis lovers outhere (p), the man is back on the game list

And so is Petit our very own midfield bulldog

My starting line-up:

Code:
            Rui Nereu

Nélson - Luisão - Anderson - Léo

      Petit - Manuel Fernandes

   Karagounis - Karyaka - Simão

           Nuno Gomes
Ps: although if Simão is not 100%, I would rather play karyaka on his position and let Nuno Assis start ahead of the DMs...or eventually play Karagounis on the mid, and let the right wing for Hélio Roque or eventually Joao Pereira, whom with nelson nearby can´t mess up too much
seriously, we have a key key game on wednesday and can't risk Simão's absence ....

Let's win the game!!!!!

FORÇA BENFICAAAAAA!!!!!

And there's plenty of them I can tell you Good to know he's in the game again ... let me briefly combine this: Koeman does not call Assis in a match he uses to test his alternatives. But then again he calls him in an important away match in a competition he has come to Portugal to gain it. That brings me to only one conclusion: Nuno Assis is a key-element in Koemans plans (and yes, I believe my own words )
Seriously, hope hes gonna get some playing time.

Dito ... we should be able to give Naval a good game, to say the least, also without our captain if necessary.

FORçA BENFICA!

Simão won't play, won't even make the bench.

reports were saying that Simao would play, either way i'd rather have him sit this one out and have him 100% against Villareal.

what terrible pitch conditions, good thing the CL game is only wednesday, coz the players are gonna be tired as hell after tonights game! never ending rain lol

ok, koeman decided to play nelson + joao pereira on the right...but i defenitly think it has to change in the 2nd half...i would sub in karagounis for that position, or eventually nuno assis ( : )...one of them playing the right wing and the other playing ahead of manuel and petit

on the left i would take out leo, and play karyaka there...
the pitch is too heavy for leo and he doesnt seem to be coping

the way things are, we really cant be missing any chances, the ball is rolling so slow, and the pitch is so bumpy, that long range shots will be absolute key!

Final, 1-1. We had so many chances. Inacio, I agree with the field conditions being horrible. Mantorras gave away our last opportunity with that weak back heal pass attempt. Nuno Gomes continues to score . I'm quite disappointed though that we dropped points.

We can not afford to lose points against teams like Naval, but of course without Simao,Geovanni and Miccoli what can we do,Karagounis out of form, joao pereira horrible, and Leo........
One last word, Mantorras. :frustrat:

Nuno Golos.

I'm impressed by Nelson again by the way and still glad that Nuno is back in his scoring shoes. A 1:1 in Naval however, despite the effort being shown and the team-spirit displayed, has to be rather seen as 2 points lost then as 1 point gained.

anyways, at least porto dropped pts as well, lets hope braga does the same tomorrow

and at least we didnt get any players hurt for wednesday

mantorras definetly has to start showing some work...hes looking very selfish and clumsy....

I find it very intriguing that we continue to have good players at this RB position. Miguel, Alex and Nelson We really only produced Miguel, since Alex was loaned out and Nelson was bought from Boavista. Nevertheless, still pretty interesting.
