CL Matchday 5: Lille vs. Benfica

According to «A Bola», 40 000 benfiquistas are expected to support Benfica in Stade de France against Lille.

From the 15000 tickets given to Benfica, only 2000 are left to sell, and, of course, the major slice of tickets will be bought in the stadium itself.

Full article:

the stadium has a capacity for 80.000 people isn't it? i wouldn't be surprised if the portuguese fans accounted for more than a half of the available seats actually

paris is very central for our many emigrants living in belgium, luxembourg and germany, and not only benfica fans will be attending for sure, so i would bet on a less conservative number

There is a large community of portugese near Paris as well. They had even a club in third division called Lusitanos St-Maur . They are now cooperating with Creteil and the club is now named US Créteil Lusitanos. They play in division 2 and they aim the Ligue 1 soon, as second club in Paris area.

look like the game will beat the Lille - Manchester attendance.

No doubt that the large portuguese community in Paris is fundamental for this number. Either way, 45000 - according to this latest article - is a fantastic number for an away game. Record anyone?

I think this thread will do pretty well as matchthread since tonights match is most obviously it's subject. So here's my line-up-proposal (had lots of work for university those days so I've got no clue of player-injuries or cards, thus I chose from the full squad)

GK: Quim

RB: Nelson
DC: Luisão
DC: Ricardo Rocha
LB: Leo

DM: Petit

RW: Geovanni
MC: Manuel Fernandes
LW: Simão

FC: Miccoli (is he already available? If not I'd try Mantorras here)
SC: Nuno Gomes

VIVA BENFICA!
make us forget the disappointment of the weekend

Agora não, que joga o Benfica! (Deolinda)

ah! someone is getting lazy here p

simao is sadly injured and wont play according to koeman.....i still dunno why the hell did he play HT in the Braga game if he wasnt ready in the 1st place!

same with karagounis, who has played a couple games injured and now is not available for god knows how long!

im very upset with this injury policy!

as for tonight, im truely gutted, this is according to Record the line up for tonight:

Code:
                           Quim

 Alcides Luisão Anderson Ricardo Rocha

          Nélson Petit Beto Léo

             Nuno Gomes Miccoli
which reminds me more of the academica line-up than benfica's

seriously, if the above is true, we will be all so lucky not to lose the game lol

we need a win at all cost tonight, and we field in 4 CB + 2 wing defenders + 2 DMs + 2 strikers lol

this is what? are we gonna play long balls? lol may God helps us tonight....

seriously, insisting on beto and picking him over manuel fernandes goes beyond me, i would really like to know what is beto doing to deserve koemans blind confidence :rollani:

manuel fernandes and karyaka in the bench...i thought karyaka was the back up for simao's absence...and beto for manuels or petits.....but koeman has other ideas, which so far have been proved all so right innit :rollani: lol

anyways, tonight is such a must win....we win today, and the world is at our feet...we lose and we best be packing up...

given the circunstamces, this would be MY line-up:

Code:
                         Quim

              Luisão Anderson Ricardo Rocha
Nélson

         Manuel Fernandes Petit

                                            Léo
                       Karyaka

             Nuno Gomes Miccoli
reminding everyone the current standings:

Villareal 6 pt
MU 5 pt
Lille 5 pt
BENFICA 4 pt

FORÇA BENFICAAAA!!!!!

I know I'm always pretty quick with my judgements, but I begin to doubt Koeman in terms of being the right man for the position. Maybe he proves me wrong however just today. If not our season is vanished while not even halfway over.

Bier, just change the thread's name to CL Matchday 5: Lille vs Benfica

About the match, i'm not that optimistic. Still, with such a huge crowd supporting us, we should be able to overcome this bad period, and beat Lille. One thing is for certain, if João Pereira and Beto start the game, we're as good as dead.
