CL day 2: Manchester United vs SL BENFICA

After the win against Lille, we travel to Manchester as GROUP D leaders.

Ronald Koeman will probably make two changes in the starting line-up with Karagounis stepping in replacing right winger Geovanni. With this change, we will probably have a more muscled midfield and with more units than usual. Whether Karagounis will go left or right in attacking plays, i reall don't know. Léo will also be discarded for a more defensive player, Ricardo Rocha, in order to stop public enemy nr 1, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Players called:

GK: Moreira and Quim.

Defenders: Nelson, João Pereira, Leo, Dos Santos, Ricardo Rocha, Luisão and Anderson.

Midfielders: Beto, Petit, Manuel Fernandes, Karagounis, Geovanni, Karyaka e Nuno Assis.

Forwards: Simão, Mantorras, Nuno Gomes e Miccoli

I expect Benfica to make a good result at Old Trafford, but i reckon that things can go the other way with an early goal. The lack of experience in most of our players may be a deciding factor, since a defensive mistake would surely make severe damages.

Manchester lost their homegame this weekend to Blackburn so I think we have a good chance. However Cristiano Ronaldo will be highly motivated so Nelson or Ricardo Rocha (well probably Leo, Dos Santos or João Pereira) will have a hard job to do.
The fact that Roy Keane will not play against us will hopefully serve us to conquer the midfield.
Força Benfica!!!

We're playing for a win. Don't know if we'll get it, but ManU is as vulnerable as its been at home in years. A draw is a real possibility, a win is plausible.

Forca Benfica! :fero:

Rooney is not playing also,he is suspended,of course that players like Ronaldo,Nistelroy, giggs can decide the game, but we have a chance to make a good result.

let's get it done tonight boys :fero: :fero:

likely starting line-up:

Code:

                          moreira

nelson luisão anderson léo

karagounis manuel fernandes petit simao

              miccoli nuno gomes

anything can happen, and we are the ones who have to feel more relaxed about tonights game, since it is in theory our toughest from the group, and the pressure is on MU's back....so lets take the best chance out of it and grab a good result! a draw would be great, but lets not denie the chance of victory

sure MU is weaker without the likes of roy keane or rooney, but its still a very strong team and with players who are already used to play in CL, and the fact that they been having bad results in the league, is only going to make them more motivated for this game, ....

either way im confident

FORÇA BENFICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best of luck to Benfica tonight.
Looking forward to seeing Miccoli run Ferdinand ragged.
They are definitely there for the taking, but your defence will need to be alert for Ronaldo and Giggs.

I hope you guys stuff them tonight. Looking at your team I had no idea you had such a strong personnel department.

I think Befica will win.

Good luck you Portugese!

STAY AHEAD

Yap, it depends on Leo and Nelson tonight, if they are in good shape and take C. Ronaldo and Giggs out of the game we stand a good chance. Nuno Gomes will hopefully wear his scoring boots again.

Thanks for the good wishes @ interpol and Firenze

Thanks Firenze.

Doesn't help our nerves though.

Espcially since this game will be televised nationally across America. Benfica will be making it's first full debut to it's Portuguese-American and other Americans alike on ESPN. :undecide:

Man Utd line-up:

-------------------------De Saar------------------------------------
--Bardsley-------------Ferdinand--------O'Shea------------Richardson
--------------Fletcher---------------Smith-----------------Scholes--
-----------Ronaldo------------------------------Giggs---------------
