XT-Benfica-dreamteam part 1 goalkeeper

In a moment of boredom the idea of creating an XT-Benfica-dreamteam in 10 steps came to my mind
Here's step 1: Goalkeeper

Easy task ... vote who you think was the best keeper in Benfica's history

Agora não, que joga o Benfica! (Deolinda)

Here's my choice:

Tough one, it was either Bento or Preud'homme for me.

great thread bier

i will have to go for preud homme, he really was something else, brilliant goalie and a true gentleman and very polite and warm towards everyone, big up to u michel

i just feel really sorry he played for us in such a bad moment of our history, he deserved a lot more, u were (and are) always a champion for us michel

I attended the goodbye match to Preud'Homme back in 99.

It was something out of this world. Even though it was "only" our presentation game against Bayern, 80000 fans were in the stadium and in the bancada central, there were huge yellow, black and red papers making the Belgium flag. Preud'homme only played 1 or 2 minutes of the match and when he left the pitch, he started running around the stadium with everyone shouting "MICHEL! MICHEL! MICHEL!"
Michel is one of those players that stay in your memory forever, and i'm sure that Benfica will be part of his memory as well as long as he lives.

Michel would earn the squad points all by himself at times. The team's defense was garbage back then, be he would rise up time and time again to turn away the opposition.

Best game I saw him play was at the Avalade around 95. Sporting dominated the whole game, but he turned held the line at 1-0. Isaias scored a late equalizer to gain a point for SLB.

Yap, we're in a similar situation at the moment with Quim and Moreira :eekani: I'm a bit sad that Enke didn't get a single vote though But hey I could've helped it.

tbh, i used to like enke...he was really an idiot to leave so soon...he had a lot of potential and screwed up big time in barcelona....
although, looking back...barcelona has become a bit of a graveyard for goalies...baia, enke, rustu....

ps. whoever chose neno can not be a benfica fan he was a very nice guy, but he was one very average goalie

Blame Rudi Völler (or whoever was in charge for the german NT back then) Enke just had no chance of being noticed and invited, playing in Portugal. Now he plays in Hannover and does quite good there IMO ... him and Hildebrand would be a far better choice then those two fighting cocks Kahn and Lehmann.

Well, it's Penguin's vote
Neno's statistics however aren't too bad ... in 170 games he conceded only 116 goals (at least that's what some old benfica-magazine of mine says.

In comparison Preud'homme conceded 218 in 240 games. Well, it was not our period after all.

Well, it's about sencelessness of some statistics ... the average depth of the sea might be 1 metre but the cow would drown in the middle of it
