karagounis is our N10 !

at last a N10, and the press was clueless all this time lol

even though he was strongly rumoured to join us last january.....

anyways, I dont really know what to think....he is a bit older than i expected, and quite frankly im not very happy about all the time he has spent in the bench this past couple years.....on the other hand he screwed us twice: euro 2004 and the qualifying game for CL, with inter....i think he owes us big

benfica doesnt have the money we would all wanted it to have, and i guess this is the "possible" deal, lets hope he gives his best

I hope it remains your lucky stadium man!
eusebio will kik your if you dont perform

now its time for the striker, move it veiga!!!!!

Karagounis is a very useful player. You never understand how good he is until he plays for your club. And finally he leaves Inter!

He's not a #10 a la Zidane though.

seriously, the feeling is not of happiness nor disapointement, its simply...relief, coz tomorrow is the deadline for making any transfers and we were badly in need of someone for that position

he is coming for 3 years, and it was on a free transfer, so it looks like thats the reason he didnt come in january!

our next game is in 2 weeks, away against our rivals sporting......i wouldnt be surprised if he would already play, it would be a good chance to put up a performance :fero:

Karagounis is a 2-way midfielder ala Emre & Stanvkovic. I personally think that he's quite similar to Tiago, a former player of yours. I wish Karagounis the best of luck in Benfica. Although he has, for some unknown reasons, been shunned out from the first team by Hector Cuper, Alberto Zaccheroni & Roberto Mancini, Giorgos has always given his 120% when he dons the Nerazzurra jersey.

The highlight of his commitment came last June when he asked the Greek NT to be excused from the Confederations' Cup duties so he can be at Mancini's disposal for Inter's first leg of the Coppa Itala final against Roma. This, even though I am sure he know it well that he wasn't going to be starter in the match.

As for his ability, I am sure that, with all due respect, you guys still remember this.

Karagounis has always been a fan favorite for Inter and at this day, we all shed tears at the departure of this absolute professional. But we understand the reason behind his departure and we thank him for his commitment when he was with us. And I'm sure that all Interisti would say BUONA FORTUNA, KARAGOUNIS!

A nicer more commited guy will never play for Inter again.Every time he played he was one of the best players..then next game bench again

At last he will get first team football in a top club

Karagouni said this..

''I am very proud to be here and my ambition is to help Benfica win some trophies," Karagounis said. "Benfica are a great club, they have won the European Champion Clubs' Cup twice and have a very rich history. I have joined a very good team."

I think Karagounis is a very good player, but he's not the playmaker we wanted.
Since Koeman will try to implement a 4-3-3 system, i think Karagounis should play in the edge of the triangle of the midfield, playing in front of the two more defensive mids.

Tomorrow, the deadline for the portuguese league transfers finishes, but from what Vieira said, i think we'll be able to sign a striker. If Veiga manages to bring a good one, then Koeman has no excuses whatsoever to fail implementing his system.

exactly benfiquista, he should be playing ahead of manuel / petit or beto, and behind the striker.........sending nuno assis straight into the bench! lol

now lets really hope we can sign a good striker!

He's not extremely creative and a number 10 like Zidane (as AMO said) but he is a very, very good player who can create at times, has a good shot and will run all game long. You won't see to many players with his heart. And finally he can start playing instead of wasteing his time at Inter.

You will be very happy with him, I promise.

He's pretty good. His strenghts are dribling, pace of game, runnning, tackling, and his shots.

Kara is a good player IMO. He will play well in a flat 4 midfield or a 4-2-3-1 system where he is in midfield but not in a diamond shaped midfield IMO.

The best would be playing in the centre of a flat 4 IMO. He'll get constant play time here so that will bring out the best in him.

Best of luck !

You lot will be awarded tons of fouls with him in the side.

Karagounis surely is no Maradona but he gives his all. His work rate is immense

He can play on the wings too, but don't expect him to beat his man and cross like typical wingers do.

My advice would be to play him in central midfield next to an anchor (Petit ?) He'd excel in that role IMO.

As one of the greek posters on XT once told me, he's a mixture between Emre and Gattuso. Skill & Grit.

Hopefully you guys will retain your title. Not only for Kara's sake, but SLB are quite popular in here because of a certain Manuel Jose.

He's too good for Portugal. He should have gone to somewhere in England or elsewhere in Italy, perhaps even Germany.

No offence intended Benfica fans, but I gotta say it....

Inter’s Karagounis joins Benfica Tuesday 30 August, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Giorgios Karagounis has ended his two-year stay at Inter by signing for Portuguese champions Benfica.

The 28-year-old, who won the 2004 European Championships with Greece, has signed a three-year contract.

The Prgos-born player joined the Nerazzurri in 2003 on a free transfer from Panathinaikos, but made just 20 League appearances for the club.

Karagounis, who has moved for an undisclosed fee, was netted at the specific request of boss Ronald Koeman.

Benfica, guided to the Portuguese title by Giovanni Trapattoni last term, have made their worst start to a season since 1977 following a defeat and a draw in their first two games.

great player, rotted on inter's bitch so they could play "big names" like veron to underperform all season. brought in by hector cuper as he was a favorite of his and cuper was removed immediately. rated in top 3 of all games he played for inter but never regular, not even as a sub. has played in champions league for many years and scored against portugal, manchester united, arsenal etc. great player, my equal favourite along with basinas
