Supertaça: Benfica - Vitoria Setubal

Here we go again, the first official match of the season is about to kick off tomorrow night at 8 o clock local time and marks our immediate chance of gaining our first silverware in this what couled become the season of superlatives, but on the other hand could become a season of setbacks. Tomorrow we will see whether the squad is already prepared or a long an hard season to come their way and raise the third trophy in two years or whether there's still work to do. Setplace of the match will be Estadio Algarve in Faro (if I'm well informed):

In addition to the condition of our squad in general we will probably get a clue whom Koeman trusts most at the stage of the season when knowing the inicial line-up. In the last treining session Koeman is said to have tried Ricardo Rocha on the left wing of defence in order to eventually line up Luisão and Anderson in the middle. A position which Ricardo Rocha has already payed on in Benfica few years ago. Still I think Dos Santos or Leo will play on the left side and this was only a test of alternatives. That leads me to my line-up proposal, which in contrary to match threads in Trap's time, can so far only be regarded as a bloody guess. Feel free to have a guess as well lads, lets see who is the closest to Koeman in mind.

GK Quim

RB Alex
DC Luisão
DC Ricardo Rocha
LB Dos Santos

DM Petit

RCM Manuel Fernandes
LCM Beto

RW Geovanni
SC Nuno Gomes
LW Simão

Força Benfica!

Agora não, que joga o Benfica! (Deolinda)

Let's hope it was just a test, but i have a feeling that RR will start as a left back. Léo is out of the match, so if RR starts, it will be a very stupid choice by Koeman.
Sure, Dos Santos is no wonder, but at least he's secure defending and can help Simão going forward. If RR starts, he can do the defending part as well as Dos Santos, but please, that's all he'll ever do.

My lineup would be:

Quim, Dos Santos, Ricardo Rocha, Anderson, Alex, Petit, Beto, Karyaka, Simão, Geovanni, Nuno Gomes

no worries, we'll win the "porto cup" tonight

but on a sidenote..isnt the supercup the silliest trophy ever?

i mean...its the 1st trophy of the current season played between two teams from...the previous season...its absurd, i think it should be the LAST trophy of the season, after all in the following year many of the players who have won cup and league wont even be the same :rollani: not to mention the coaches

Actually, to be completely honest, I don't rate that trophy at all. I never found the idea of one-games trophies very amusing. It's the same with the european Supercup. In Germany there is the Ligapokal, where the best 5 teams from the Bundesliga and the cup-winner take on each other in a preseason competition. That has more of a valuable competition and I rate this trophy way higher then the Supercup they previously also had in Germany. Ehrr however it's silverware and so I want Simão to get his hands on it! Força Benfica

About your idea that the Supercup should've been held by the end of last season ... I can imagine I would've been pretty pissed to see us lose the cup-final just for to eventually win the Supercup-final against the same team two weeks later.

What the hell, why did you guys open a thread about the game, you should wait for the game to finnish,we will easily win against a team that
have Norton de Matos as head coach .
Besides this,we will play at home,so no worries "Benfiquistas",4-0,even Nuno "cabeleiro" will score today.

Benfica take out curtain-raiser

Reuters

Champions Benfica gained revenge over Cup holders Vitoria Setubal with a 1-0 win in the traditional season-opening Portuguese Supercup overnight.

Setubal beat Benfica 2-1 to deny the Lisbon side a domestic double last season.

Benfica, with Dutchman Ronald Koeman succeeding Giovanni Trapattoni as coach, claimed the trophy for the fourth time thanks to striker Nuno Gomes, who scored the winner after 51 after a deflected cross by midfielder Beto.

Benfica begin the defence of their title at Academica next week when runners-up Porto are also in action at home to promoted Estrela Amadora.

Very funny, you obviously couldn't tell a good defender from Enakahire.
BTW you must've mixed something up with the names. You are probably referring to a guy who also plays in Lisbon but who is widely known only by the name Ricardo. He plays quite often though, as miraculously he's first choice goalkeeper at our city rivals Sporting CP.
