Boavista - Benfica ... the most important game of a decade!

So here is the matchthread for this last league game our beloved Benfica will play this season. Not have we been in such a situation for ten years now. It's all in our hands, we can be champions again. What it needs is at least a draw to Boavista to keep Porto and Sporting one point on distance. Trapattoni had a midweek-statement in which he proclaimed Benfica would go for 3 points. Yet still it's not going to be easy. Boavista can, in contrary to us, play without pressure since they are trapped on their league position and can not reach out anymore for european business. So they have nothing to lose. We have. Presumingly Porto and Sporting will try and take their last oportunity and beat the likes of Academica and Nacional. And so should we. Do what it takes to be champion.
To the squad:
Ricardo Rocha was in doubt at the beginning of this week but is back in training by now. So Trapattoni will be in the lucky position to be able to chose from his full squad (or did I miss some cards again? ) ... so I suppose he will play the team he established over the last months:

Quim (vai por a camisa #1 da selecção!)
-
Miguel
Luisão
RicRocha
DosSantos
-
Petit
-
Geovanni
Manulele
Simão
-
NunoAssis
-
Nuno Gomes

Anda Benfica! Vamos vençer!
All the matches of the last matchday will be played on sunday, may 22nd, at 4pm and at 7.15 (SLB/SCP/FCP/Braga) local time.

I just found the following ( www.lpfp.pt ):
Comissão Executiva autoriza Boavista - Benfica, Sporting - Nacional e Moreirense - SC Braga na SPORTTV e FC Porto - Académica na TVI.

I can't wait anymore.

im all so nervous for this game, that i made a deal with my best mate, and we both gonna get drunk before the game

hopefully we will get drunk afterwards as well

its great that everyone is available!

i hope both miguel and simao can overcome the pain they must be enduring due to their injuries, and give it one last effort this season

i heard about the possibility of keeping luisao as well, from his own mouth ! he was talking on the radio and said (without being questioned about it) that he really loves it here, and hes feeling very attached to the club, and if the right conditions ($ oh $) were in place, he would rather stay

i would rather keep him and the other guys anyday than go sell them and buy replacements. with the current squad with would "only" need 2 or 3 players for specific positions. anyways its early to talk about next season yet

lets take the Bessa by storm!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn, I have no confidence whatsoever! What looks like an easy win, after all Boavista will not play their goalie and JVP, have no incentive to win, has all the trappings (no pun intended of a loss. Especially if Trap just needs a tie. I think he'll play for it. I just hope the players play balls out, and get the necessary 3 points!

FORCA BENFICA!!!!

....There was also a conspiracy against Sporting to keep them out of 1st place by 26 points. The conspiracy is about to be revealed in a public judicial forum soon enough. It's hasn't anything to do with Golden whistles, but with Golden Showers, as Sporting Administration and coaching has conspired to piss all over themselves this season.

And btw, Boavista's players have just received their wages that weren't paid in the last months. Coincidence?

(Hey Red, cool to see ya around again, mate.)
Same here, though Trap sayd somewhen in the middle of the weeks, they would go for 3 points, I yet can't really see it.

However, the whole team knows what this match is about, not only Trapattoni, so each one will fight for the championship and try to do his best. Let's see if they can bring it home. I'm proud that we made it so for for the first and hope we can take the last step now.
FORçA BENFICA!

BTW: oops, changed it LPC

"After everything I went through at Benfica, it doesn't have any effect on me. Besides, I would like that Porto become champion, but if they are not, then it should be the best team. If the fight was, say, between Benfica and Sporting I would keep some distance. I have friends on both sides and it would be the same for me"

Hugo Leal

I must say that this guy became a true Benfiquista when he left the club. I must thank him for that. Another example of greatness, among Robert Enke and Edgar Caseiro.

As a proud Sportinguista, I just can't get myself to want Benfica to win, but after seing the way Porto has played this year, I can't get myself to want Porto to win either....

I think I'll just stay neutral in this one :S
