Xtratime Champions Cup 2009/10 - Rules

Welcome to the Xtratime Champions Cup 2009/10!

Although last year there were moments when I really doubted that I was going to be organising this on my own ever again, I have decided to give it a go again this season so hopefully I will again count with all of you to keep this XT's institution alive!

As last year the number of people predicting went down when compared to previous seasons I've decided to keep the same format adopted in the middle of last season.

After 4 qualifying rounds, we will select 30 participants, amongst those that will predict more often, and these will go through to the Group Stage that will count with 5 groups of 6 participants each.

To take part in the Qualifying Round you have to sign up here...

The Format:

There will be 4 qualification rounds, deciding who goes through to the Group Stage. The results will both determine your “ability” to participate regularly as well as your knowledge.

There will be 10 group games, so everyone plays the other group members twice.

The top 3 of each group plus the best 4th placed in all groups will qualify for the Round of 16.

The Winners of each group will play the 4th placed players of each group and the Runner-Ups will face the 3rd placed players.

Here is the key of the Round of 16:

1. Winner of Group A vs Best 4th placed
2. Winner of Group B vs 3rd placed Group C
3. Winner of Group C vs 3rd placed Group D
4. Winner of Group D vs 3rd placed Group E
5. Winner of Group E vs 3rd placed Group A
6. Runner-Up Group E vs 3rd placed Group B
7. Runner-Up Group D vs Runner-Up Group C
8. Runner-Up Group B vs Runner-Up Group A

Here is the key of the Quarter Finals:

QF1 - Winner of match 1 vs Winner of match 7
QF2 - Winner of match 2 vs Winner of match 8
QF3 - Winner of match 3 vs Winner of match 5
QF4 - Winner of match 4 vs Winner of match 6

...and this is the key for the Semi Finals:

Winner of QF1 vs Winner of QF3
Winner of QF2 vs Winner of QF4

Games to predict:

Like last season there will be 13 games per matchday to predict.

These 13 games will be broken down as follows:
1 game each of the 3 European top leagues (England, Spain, Italy)
1 game each of the 2 South American top leagues (Brazil and Argentina)
4 games of other European leagues
4 games of leagues from other continents (Africa, Asia, CONMEBOL, CONCACAF and Oceania)

As usual there will be a thread for each matchday, offering basic information on the games to predict and the fixtures in the XCC competition.

Bonus points:

I am not really a fan of extra points for a one-off good performance so the only bonus point available (1 point) will be given if any predictor gets the 13 predictions right in any given matchday.

Tie-breakers:

In the Qualification Stage:

If you’re equal on points, the following criteria apply:
1) Number of predictions made
2) Higher single score
3) Regular predictor in past XCC-competitions
4) Coin-toss

In the Group Stage:

If you’re equal on points after 10 matchdays, the following criteria apply:
1) Overall Points (without bonus points)
2) Goals scored (during Group Stage)
3) Direct duel
4) Highest single score
5) Tie-breaker (to be played before the round of 16)

In the Knock-out Rounds:

If you’re equal on goals after the 2nd leg, the following criteria apply:
1) Higher single score (e.g. 6+4 is better than 5+5).
2) Direct duel during the Group Stage (if both were in the same group).
3) Goals scored during the Group Stage.
4) Highest single score during the Group Stage.
5) Tie-breaker (to be played before the following round).

Predicting:

As usual you will use the prediction league set up in the PL-system here: https://www.xtratime.org/forum/pl_sta...php?league=154

I will try to have predictions up on each Monday. If you are unavailable to predict, please PM me with your predictions but beware that I will only accept a maximum of two late predictions per person during the entire season.

The deadline to predict will be on Saturday morning (the latest at 12 CET) as I will not pick any games played on Fridays.

Good luck and have fun!...and, of course, sign up for XCC 2009/10 here:
