We've reached the exact middle of this group stage so I guess it's time for a sum up of the current situation on each of the 4 groups.
The Belgo-Dutch alliance proposed by Wally at the start of this campaign seems to have worked but only for two of them. In fact Wally
and Ezekiel 25:17
are virtually strolling towards the knock-out stage and seem to be the only two predictors in this group with no problems in achieving that goal. Right behind them comes a tight pack of 4, ViRiPiDES
, Teddy Bear
, only separated by 2 tiny points. Very difficult to predict who will be the two to go through from this lot and we should not count out the dangerous dark horses Blue @ngel
and Alex e Champion
, whom for probably very different reasons missed a few matchdays but will hopefully be back.
This is probably the weakest group in terms of average of points per predictor and that is mainly due to the complete absence of one predictor, Kirriku19
, and a mix of absences and stinkers from another, Pretty Boy
. Still, the top trio, bono
, FC Barcelona9
, is fearsome and they all seem to be big candidates for a place in the next stage. The fourth slot should go to one of the other three predictors, Barca King
, Robbie Keane
, with the culé from Kuwait being the bookies favourite.
This is clearly the tightest of all groups with only 5 points separating the current leader from the 7th placed! The current top 4, Q007
, have a slight advantage above the rest but that difference can easily disappear in just a couple of matchdays. The pursuing trio, positive focus
, doesn't seem to be willing to let go and even delpi_vanni_10
decided in this last matchday to bring out the goods and register a first win.
D for Death...well, at least I could say that about myself looking at my form in the last month. Anyway, this is indeed a tough tough group which makes Runes Order
performance even more sublime...all hail the Flemish Prediction King!
The silent burimi_go
and the current champion TomRSCA
also seem to be on their way to glory but after that, nothing is clear. Is the old master of XCC tgv325
going to make a strong second half of this group stage and put us all in our places or will this be solved by a good ol' Lisbon derby between me and O Glorioso
? Or will HajdukSplit
get some of the luck that escaped in these first 7 group stage rounds?
In any case these are just predictions because after all...it's football that we're talking about! :smileani:
We are going now into Winter break for some well deserved 5 weeks of no Sunday nigh calculations.
Like a good Scandinavian league team, I'll be spending 3 of them recharging batteries in some sunny Lisbon training ground.
So watch out for the 16-18 January weekend because XCC 08/09 will be back! :fero:
PS: Season greetings for those that celebrate something at this time of the year and wishes of a 2009 full of trophies for your favourite teams...except for inacio and O Glorioso, of course.
