XCC 2008/09 - Group Stage: New Format and New Timeline

The Qualification Stage finished today and on the contrary to what happened, at least in the last couple of years, the amount of predictors was not extremely high. This fact will force us to make some changes in the format that we have set at the start of this XCC PL 2008/09.

As only 41 people participated in the Qualification Stage, and from those only 23 predicted in all the 4 rounds, we will obviously not have 48 participants in the Group Stage. To be realistic we do not think it is worth having a Group Stage with more than 32 participants.

The 32 participants will be chosen in the following way:

the 30 participants that predicted at least 3 rounds +
the 2 participants that have in the past editions of XCC predicted more regularly.

THE NEW FORMAT:

- The Group Stage will have 4 groups of 8 participants each.

- There will be 14 group games, so everyone plays the other group members twice.

- The top four of each group will qualify for the Round of 16 which means that obviously there will be no Round of 32.

- The Winners of each group will play the 4th placed players of each group and the Runners-Up will face the 3rd placed players.

Here is the key of the Round of 16:

1. Winner of Group A vs 4th placed Group D
2. Winner of Group B vs 4th placed Group C
3. Winner of Group C vs 4th placed Group B
4. Winner of Group D vs 4th placed Group A
5. Runner-Up Group A vs 3rd placed Group D
6. Runner-Up Group B vs 3rd placed Group C
7. Runner-Up Group C vs 3rd placed Group B
8. Runner-Up Group D vs 3rd placed Group A

Here is the key of the Quarter Finals:

QF1 - Winner of match 1 vs Winner of match 7
QF2 - Winner of match 2 vs Winner of match 8
QF3 - Winner of match 3 vs Winner of match 5
QF4 - Winner of match 4 vs Winner of match 6

...and this is the key for the Semi Finals:

Winner of QF1 vs Winner of QF3
Winner of QF2 vs Winner of QF4

My group C, quite a hard group with some good predictors there! Bosanac, Q007 and Toni samp I think we all met before in the group stage two years ago which was great so I'm really looking forward to this years competition now!

Also finally, how tough is group D ?
Man I'm so happy to have avoided that one.

I know you and Tom have won the last two years, but who won three years ago?

*I just checked, and I see that MxPx pipped Teddy bear by one point in final.*

Thought it was tgv325 but can be wrong as well... I remember a XCC Champions Cup in 2001 or 2002 where I was by the last 8 ( before tgv325 took over the XCC ) and then it just stopped... Was in the early days where you had to make your predictions through an outside link to an independant website.
Anyway, 2 belgians in the same group hhmmm, but also the last champions, double hhmmm

Won't go far this year probably if I have a look at that group... even now I'm not in the top 20 but anyway our great Q007 and TomRSCA will be real contenders

Winner of the Xtratime Champions Cup 2006/2007

One thing is sure... we need more motivated youngsters because the older members ( 25- ... ) have a family, busy job, house to rebuild, .. now
We lost too many PL's already this year ( English, French, German, Scottish ... )

I think that the only thing we really need to find is a couple of people that can run the whole thing because it really doesn't take that much time to send your predictions every week. To run the whole thing alone is surely not easy but I hope tgv will have a bit more time to help me later on as he said he would.

Thanks but the truth is I never did as well on XCC as in the Belgian PL. I think you're way too modest about your own chances
