XCC 2007/08 - Feedback

Please give me all your feedback for the season 2007/08 in this thread.

First of all, the questions I'd like you to answer:

-) Do you want
a) the best two group-winners to go through to the round of 16
b) the on “goals scored” best two not-qualified participants in the round of 32.

-) What do you think of the choice for the 12 games to predict?

1 game each of the 5 European top-leagues (England, Spain, Italy, Germany, France)
2 games of the “more important” smaller European leagues
2 games of the “average” European leagues
1 game of the small European and non-European leagues
2 games of the “big” non-European leagues (South America, Australia, etc.)

-) Rate the following leagues: 5 points for the most important ones, to 1 point for the small ones.

Albania
Andorra
Armenia
Austria
Azerbaijan
Belarus
Belgium
Bosnia-Hercegovina
Bulgaria
Croatia
Cyprus
Czech Republic
Denmark
Estonia
Faroe Islands
Finland
Georgia
Greece
Hungary
Iceland
Ireland
Israel
Kazachstan
Kosovo
Latvia
Lithuania
Luxemburg
Macedonia
Malta
Moldova
Montenegro
Netherlands
Northern Ireland
Norway
Poland
Portugal
Romania
Russia
San Marino
Scotland
Serbia
Slovakia
Slovenia
Sweden
Switzerland
Turkey
Ukraine
Wales

-) If someone knows a program to calculate football tables automatically – or if someone knows how to do that in a simple excel-file – please tell me or forward the program – that would dramatically speed up the process of getting each week’s results in the group stage.

Thanks a lot!

I would prefer 13 for the reasons I have explained in my suggestions post.

I don't see the point in giving space for what you call "average" or "small" European leagues. I would replace those by giving more space to African and Latin American leagues. Besides this I would always include a game of the Brazilian and Argentinian leagues in every week.

Sorry, I don't know of any programme. If you would need help from another manager to organise this stuff I'd be willing to help you but something tells me you want to do it by yourself which is fine by me.

Thanks for all your work.

That may be true to you and to a few Europeans here that just watch and follow the top 3 Euro leagues (EPL/Liga/SerieA) plus the one of their own country.

Fortunately XT is NOT only European and also fortunately there are a few people around here that have realised that football is not only played in those 3 above mentioned countries plus their own.

I agree on that. how can I predict some central american matches when I dont even know a single club from there?? or some chinese Shanghai Something Utd vs Bankgkok Dragons City??? IMO we should stick to the European games + one or two games from the rest of the world (once american, once asian, once african, once oceanian.)

When you say "we" are familiar with the leagues of Latvia, Slovakia and Croatia you are referring exactly to whom?

For example, I am European, I have been following the European cups for many many years and I couldn't give less of a toss for teams from those countries that you've mentioned (maybe with the exception of Dinamo Zagreb and Hajduk Split), with all due respect for all the posters coming from there.

This serves to say that even in Europe there are people that may be more interested in what happens in leagues of countries like for example Mexico, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Uruguay, Egypt, Morocco, South Africa, etc. than in the obscure tiny leagues of Europe.

There is a big world out there waiting for you my friend.

Having only the European leagues is definitely no option, as Xtratime is a worldwide board and thus shouldn't concentrate on Europe, even if most of the important football games are played in some of the European leagues. But your interests of course have some influence, because it wouldn't make sense to have more than one or two games from outside Europe, if the majority of you isn't happy about it. However, I guess I'm talking for most of you, that there's hardly a difference between predicting games from e.g. Finland, Latvia and San Marino or Peru, Egypt and China, so there'll definitely be games to predict from all over the world.

I assume the best two group winners qualify anyhow, no?

Concerning game choice, I leave it up to your wisdom. I think you choose well last year, so just continue like that

thats why we have the chance to share our opinion here my friend. we all participate in this PL so the majority will decide what leagues should be accepted and I have no intention to resign if we have games from Peru, Central Africa or Fiji. I was just makin my opinion there.

last season Ive lost many points on the chinese games and thats the reason why I dont really like the non-european games.

Exactly. That and the fact xt is not only a european board should answer the question itself.

And thanks for all the effort you put into that whole thing.
