2014-2015 Serie A Season

The season begins Sunday night at home against Inter.

Both clubs are riding high after Europa Cup advancement, but both may also be a bit tired.

We shouldn't be a surprise team this season. Others will know to take us seriously. Are the new acquisitions enough?

FORZA TORO!

TORO-Inter 0-0

I didn't get to see this match. Missing the penalty hurt. Ultimately, I was satisfied with this result. Sounds like we had a tremendous crowd.

This week, we must take care of business against Sassuolo. Ventura may have his hands full integrating all the new pieces during the week.

The losses of Cerci and Immobile are obviously huge, but I think the goal scoring impact of their absence is not the biggest problem. I believe Quagliarella and Amauri can finish acceptably, but... Who is going to create? Here is a chart from last seasons statistics:

El Kaddouri will be counted on in a big way. Vives creates some mismatches deep, not really 'directly' resulting in many scoring opportunities. Darmian may be expected to assert himself more offensively, hopefully while maintaining his always stout defense. Maksimovic could also be instructed to get forward more, but that might be asking too much of him at this point. Maybe Farnerud gets a boost after adapting to the league for a year?

I'm not expecting much from Larrondo or Barreto.

Out of the other newcomers, you're then looking to Josef Martinez and Juan Sanchez-Mino.

What players do you guys think will be able to consistently provide creativity this year?

El Kaddouri
Quags
Darmian
Maksimovic
Farnerud
Martinez
Sanchez-Mino
*other?

Could be a long season for Toro. Luckily there are some terrible teams in the lower half.

Sanchez-Mino is a decent player but more left-sided, not sure how he fits into your current formation to be honest.

Much needed 3 points.. I hope they are able to adjust the playing style to accommodate the very different skill set that this years attackers have, compared to last.

Right on pace to have enough points for survival.. Yay.

There is nobody who can consistency create chances for this team. Though defensively the team has been playing well, it will be tough to compete in the top half of the table with so little offense.

The moves to 'replace' Immobile with Quagliarella and Amauri made sense. But while I like Josef Martinez as a prospect, another more established player needed to be brought in to provide attacking width to 'replace' Cerci.

Petrachi really needs to correct this in January, but I'm not so sure Torino is in a position to acquire anything more than a gamble on somebody who can provide an attacking threat down one of the flanks.

That Bruno Peres goals is one of the goals of the season across Europe.

I watched an abbreviated version of the derby last night. It was very satisfying through 91 minutes. The Peres goal was special in many ways.

I haven't seen Toro play much this year, but my sense is that the team is gradually coming together. It certainly lacks the weapons of last season. But the current record is misleading. I do not fear survival. Hopefully the team will be strengthened in January.

Let's stay calm.
