Just a note on the author of this article - Peter Bourne. He wrote the wonderful Passion in the Piazza book on Toro (specifically the summer of 2005 when Cairo was the saviour of the club).

The book is available here & I can't recommend it highly enough:

Thanks for keeping things going everyone. I've been busy with work for a few weeks, and unable to update the page regularly. I should be a more regular presence going forward.

Nice win over Chievo. Sorry that any momentum will be interrupted by the holidays. Hopefully Cairo will add a few pieces to strenthen our campaign in the Spring. Encouraging news on the Bianchi front.

Happy Holidays everyone!

I think our guys celebrated the win last week against Roma a bit too much because we looked fairly hungover in Torino on Saturday. A bit of a disappointing loss for Chievo since the previous three performances had been excellent.

The latest from Cairo, who doesn't really say too much:

http://www.football-italia.net/28906...ansfer-targets

Front page of Tuttosport has a more interesting soundbite from Cairo, something along the lines of Bianchi will stay if he takes a pay cut. As always, he just can't keep his mouth shut. Anyone know what level of involvement / control Petracchi has on transfers at this stage? If Cairo won't spend any money, is his role totally diminished? Not too well up on the internal workings of the club, so any insight would be appreciated.

Hopefully Ogbonna will stay through the end of the season. At least Juve and Milan aren't beating down the doors.

Why is it that every time Cairo talks about this it sounds like he is touting Ogbonna for sale and driving the price up?

Serie A Week 20 - 13 Jan 2013 (11.30 UK)
Torino 3 - 2 Siena
Brighi 5 (T), Reginaldo 32 (S), Bianchi 38 (T), Cerci 45+2 (T), Paolucci 75 (S)
Stadio Olimpico

Torino eventually scraped a 3-2 victory over Siena despite being decimated by bans, as Alessandro Rosina missed a last-minute penalty against his former club.

This was a crunch match in the race to avoid Serie B, as bottom of the table Siena faced a Toro side in disarray. The Granata were decimated by bans to Antonio Masiello, Alessandro Gazzi, Giuseppe Vives, Kamil Glik and Matteo Darmian, plus injuries for Angelo Ogbonna, Abou Diop and Mario Alberto Santana. Siena had Angelo suspended, while Marcelo Larrondo was heading to Fiorentina after Emanuele Calaiò joined Napoli.

When these sides met in Week 1 it was a goalless draw, while their history in Turin spoke of a win each and three stalemates.

It took all of five minutes to break the deadlock, as D’Ambrosio pulled back an Alessio Cerci cross for the on-rushing Matteo Brighi to fire in with his right foot. It was only the midfielder’s 22nd Serie A goal in 314 appearances, though curiously his fourth past Siena.

Guillermo Rodriguez needed a sliding tackle to intercept ex-Toro star Alessandro Rosina’s through ball for Reginaldo in the box, but Siena had no centre-forwards and it showed.

Defender Luis Neto nodded over the bar, but Siena did manage to equalise when a ball was not cleared effectively and Reginaldo managed to bundle it over the line from close range with a combination of chest and shoulder.

It didn’t take long for Toro to restore their advantage, as six minutes later Rolando Bianchi nodded in Valter Birsa’s cross when left criminally unmarked.

The Tuscans threatened to draw level again before the break, but Massimo Paci’s header from a Rosina corner was over the bar, then Jean-Francois Gillet needed a desperate save.

However, in first half stoppages Alessio Cerci was clinical on the counter-attack from that Siena chance, waltzing round goalkeeper Gianluca Pegolo to deposit into an empty net.

Gillet had to sprint off his line to clear a shaky backpass as Michele Paolucci went to pounce. Bianchi was booked for jumping with an elbow out on Paci and will be suspended for the next game against Pescara.

Gillet had his palms stung in a fantastic reaction save on a Rosina volley that was heading under the bar. Siena gave Francesco Della Rocca his debut after this week’s move from Fiorentina.

The visitors did get one back with 15 minutes to go after Cerci sluggishly gave the ball away in the final third, allowing a Cristiano Del Grosso cross that Reginaldo knocked down for Paolucci’s finish at the back post.

Siena were pushing hard and Gillet flew to palm an Andrea Sestu volley out from under the bar. From the resulting corner, debutant Della Rocca was tripped from behind by Brighi for a penalty, though he also made the most of it.

Rosina stepped up against his former club and fired it well wide! That error sealed Siena’s sixth consecutive defeat.
Torino: Gillet; D’Ambrosio, Di Cesare, Rodriguez, P Caceres; Brighi, Basha; Cerci, Sansone (Meggiorini 79), Bianchi, Birsa (Suciu 79)
Siena: Pegolo; Neto, Paci, Felipe; Belmonte (Sestu 56), Bolzoni (Della Rocca 73), Vergassola, Valiani (Paolucci 41), Del Grosso; Rosina, Reginaldo
Ref: Di Bello

Missed penalty: Rosina 89 (S)

When I saw this headline I thought Cairo was up to his usual tricks! I know Ventura is under some pressure, but if he keeps Toro up I will be happy. A win today would go a long way towards that goal. Great three points last week, but really hanging on at the end. At least Rosina showed he is still granata with that last min penalty!

Almost halftime in Inter-Torino. Some nice, enterprising soccer by Torino.

Should have taken all 3 points. I suppose being disappointed with a draw at the San Siro is a good sign!
