Serie A Matchday 18: Genoa-Torino
Serie A Week 18 - 10/1/09 (17.00 UK)
Genoa - Torino
Confident Genoa welcome Torino to Marassi hoping to add another important win to their positive run in Serie A’s Week 18. However, the Granata, who have been struggling in recent weeks, shouldn’t be taken for granted and Saturday afternoon’s clash is set to be a heated one.
The Rossoblu are by far one of this term’s biggest revelations. They currently lie sixth with 29 points, only four less than Milan. However, a number of negotiations taking place in this January’s transfer window could potentially have a negative influence on the team.
“Diego Milito isn’t going anywhere,” commented President Enrico Preziosi after links with Inter. “He has a strong relationship with the city and that’s why we brought him back to Marassi. All these rumours are meaningless.”
Toro find themselves in the opposite situation of the Liguri. The Piemontesi had high expectations for the current season, but are now struggling to move out of the relegation zone, from which they are separated by a single point. However, following the return to the bench of Walter Novellino things have been improving slightly.
“We need to stay focused, work hard and we will come out of this tunnel,” said the former Sampdoria Coach. “We will buy a full-back but also gamble on our youngsters because they are our future.”
Both Genoa and Torino were successful in Week 17 against Chievo and Napoli respectively. The Grifoni comfortably beat the Granata in last year’s encounter and are hoping to repeat that kind of performance.
There will be several players missing on both sides although there are no suspensions. The biggest absentee may be Milito, who is suffering from a muscular injury and is doubtful. Raffaele Palladino is also injured.
Paolo Zanetti will be out and Simone Barone should step in to replace him. Angelo Ogbonna, Matteo Rubin and Elvis Abbruscato complete the Granata’s injury list. Novellino is still uncertain whether to include Alessandro Rosina in the starting XI, but in the end the attacking midfielder should be preferred to Aimo Diana.
Keep an eye on: Ruben Olivera (Genoa) – The Uruguayan ace was meant to leave Marassi but has decided to stay put and will get a chance from the start this weekend. Now it’s up to him to show whether he is still worth something for Il Grifone.

My heart = INTER...No Matter Win or Lose...
Zanetti : I still remember my first day at Inter. I arrived with a plastic bag with my boots inside and I crossed the crowd of fans who were asking who I was. That's where it all started.....
