Serie A Matchday 5: Parma-Torino

We have drawn at home against weaker teams, but I have a feeling we can win this one. Right now this will look to be the team for this midweek round:

Bjelanovic
Recoba-Rosina
Barone-Corini-Grella
Lanna-Dellafiore-Natali-Comotto
Sereni

Serie A Week 5 - 26/9/07 (19.30 UK)
Parma-Torino

Stadio Tardini

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Both these sides are still looking for their first win of the season and if it doesn’t come soon, then they’ll have to worry more about a relegation dogfight than pushing for mid-table comfort.

At least the draw addicted teams should be shaken out of their habit here, as this fixture has not ended with a share of the points since a 2-2 in February 1993. Last season Parma had the 1-0 victory thanks to Giuseppe Rossi, who has now moved on to Villarreal.

Parma took advantage of Milan’s current crisis in Serie A by snatching a 1-1 draw at San Siro on Saturday, as youngster Andrea Pisanu confirmed he is coming of age with his second goal of the campaign. With so many games in quick succession, Domenico Di Carlo will be tempted to rotate his squad. Davide Matteini and Luca Cigarini are candidates for the starting XI, while Nicola Pavarini again replaces the injured Luca Bucci in goal. Igor Budan, Domenico Morfeo and Massimo Paci are also fitness doubts. On loan Manchester City man Bernardo Corradi should lead the line.

Torino started the season with high hopes and are still unbeaten, but four straight draws are not too impressive considering the sheer talent at Coach Walter Novellino’s disposal. Alvaro Recoba and Alessandro Rosina certainly provide a spectacle for the fans, but as the tactician pointed out: “I’d rather they were less entertaining and more effective.” At least Matteo Sereni can consider his confidence high after saving two penalties in the 1-1 draw with Siena last Sunday.

Eugenio Corini nearly joined Parma over the summer when he was deciding his post-Palermo future, so this will be an intriguing tie for the creative midfielder. David Di Michele remains suspended until October 30 due to a betting scandal, while Nicola Ventola, Nikola Lazetic, Ivan Franceschini and Tommaso Vailatti are struggling with injury.

Keep an eye on: Alessandro Rosina (Torino) – Rosinaldo – formerly of Parma – is the creative centre of the side and can always be counted on to create something, especially with Recoba at his side.

Last season: Parma 1-0 Torino

Form guide: Parma (- D L D D) Torino (- D D D D)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Parma (probable): Pavarini; Coly, Falcone, Rossi, Castellini; Dessena, Cigarini, Morrone; Matteini, Corradi, Reginaldo

Torino (probable): Sereni; Comotto, Natali, Dellafiore, Lanna; Grella, Corini, Barone; Recoba, Rosina; Bjelanovic

Zanetti : I still remember my first day at Inter. I arrived with a plastic bag with my boots inside and I crossed the crowd of fans who were asking who I was. That's where it all started.....

Novellino contests touchline ban

I didn't realize this. but Novellino was sent off again? He was sent off against Reggina or Palermo, I forget which, but it looks like he will actually get a touchline ban this time, which no help in a game we need three points. I'm not as worried about Stellone's injury. We still have Bjelanovic, Malonga, and Oguro, as well as Ventola returning from injury.

Novellino will be back for the derby. In the meantime we have to look towards not conceding (penalties and goals).

0-2. You know, today, I was just thinking about how much better our team is than last year. With the exception of maybe goalkeeper, we have improved in every position. Yet then we go out and play miserably like this, and it makes me wonder, where's the problem?

Man this really sucks! I had some hope for this season. How long do you guys think it will be until Novellino is sacked?

I know its early to talk like this but if we dont start getting results soon he has to go IMO, plus, I never likled the guy as a coach and if you saw some of the things he did at Sampdoria you wouldn't like him either

anyway we were unbeaten till this
maybe we can get our first victory on the flies?who knows
sereni does better than what did abbiati do this time, last year.
Novellino is called a defence master, right? and every position is strengthened. but this season,at least these 5 A games, our defence is so xxxxxxxxxxx . what's wrong???
