We also got 2 Judo places, even though it is not officially confirmed but Elkhan Mammadli and Elkhan Mammadov sealed their places. Also on positive note, Azerbaijan got incredible chance this year as we can get 7 licenses from Judo.

I am also waiting for Boxing and Wrestling qualifiers to see who is going.

Unfortunately, we lost Ramil Guliyev in sprinting who was talent. He also put pressure on himself as he can't represent Turkey before 2014. However, Azerbaijan could get their first ever athletics medals as we got naturalised Ethiopians Layes Abdullayeva and Hayle Ibrahimov - who are really decent.:smileani:

Boxing - I don't know, how well we are currently. Future once again looks bright but don't know about chances in London.

Equestrian - Jamal Rahimov been very quiet in last days, so I don't rate our chances of being very high.

Gymnastics - so for we got no medals from this sport but who knows, Aliya Garayeva could land few silverware for us.

Judo - We are definitely getting medals in this sport. I'll be happy with 2 golds.

Shooting and Swimming - no chance)))

Taekwando - We got good chance of getting medals in this sport this year. Hopefully, fortune favors us.

Weightlifting - I don't know how are Bulgarian naturalized legioners will do, even though we got talented kids but they are too young.

Wrestling - Last Olympics very unlucky with no golds but this year, I expect 2-3 golds. I think our best chance of winning gold lays on Khetag Gasymov - who's been terrific.

We also first time, likely to get canoe duo and they are powerful guys from Ukraine - so keep your hopes high.

I think next year we are more than capable of sending almost 50 athletes, which I think would be a tremendous success for a country like Azerbaijan.

it is too early to talk about medal chances, since a LOT can happen over the next one year. But the way I see it, as of now, we have I'd say about 2-3 athletes who are among the top contenders for gold and about 3-4 more who can land in top three.

we already have 39 licenses same as in Beijing. If we add 7 judokas, and at least 5-6 more in wrestling, then we shall surpass the 50 licenses mark, setting a new record high for us.

Hi dear Quidam! Haven't been here for a while again...

I really love your list with all these images. Great work!

As for our licenses, I don't doubt that we will pass the 50 licenses mark. We might even come close to the 60 licenses mark, but this certainly depends on how our wrestlers will do in the last two qualification tournaments. We still miss six licenses.
I expect one-two licenses in athletics (at least, Ruslan Abbasov in men's 100m should be able to meet the respective standards), and still hope that Ramil Guliyev will compete for us. He already met the respective standard. Perhaps we might get additional licenses on the last European qualifying tournament in canoeing and rowing. And maybe, our women's field hockey team will manage to qualify for the Olympics, although they will have to overcome Japan, 8th strongest team in the world and host of the qualification tournament.
But what I'm really disappointed at is the fact that instead of 7 licenses in judo, we might get just 6. The reason is Kifayat Gasimova's poor performance at the European Championships in Chelyabinsk on the one side, and her main opponents' (in the world rankings) good performances. She still holds a qualification spot in the rankings; however, she might lose it, if another "neighbour" in the rankings from Australia finishes first in the Oceanian Championships, which is very likely. In that case she won't qualify directly, but will nonetheless get a ticket to London thanks to the continental quota. Elmar Gasimov, however, won't have any chances to participate at the Olympics, since each country might only get one license through the continental quota..

After all the qualifications tournaments have finished, we could draw some conclusions on our pre-Olympic campaign and analyse the chances of our sportsmen in the upcoming Games. But I would already now like to emphasise that I am really ecstatic about some new names in our sports. There seem to be several talented and promising guys in different types of sports: 16-year-old taekwondo athlete Farida Azizova, 19-year-old European Boxing Champion and World Vice-Champion Teymur Mammadov, news guys in our wrestling national team, led by Toghrul Askerov, Hasan Aliyev and Ashraf Aliyev. Jamal Ragimov has managed to qualify for Olympics for the second time. Shakir Shikhaliyev will represent our country in artistic gymnastics - for the first time in our independent history. And how noteworthy it is that he is being coached by an Olympic Champion-1992 from Azerbaijan! Last but not least we finally have a license in fencing as well, but it's not just about the license: keep an eye on that girl, she can beat anyone on her best day- just to mention two-time Olympic Champion Mariel Zagunis from the USA.

Seems like I have written too much for the beginning...

Orkanio! What's up bro!

Kudos on great analysis! So far, I'm really disappointed only about Salman Alizade, our 2011 European boxing champion, missing out on the Olympics. I had high hopes about him. Also, in Judo, I don't know why our federation was relying so blindly on Renat in 73kg category to earn the license. The guy was simple not up to work. Now, we'll have no one in this category.

Other than that, I think in this team we'll have at least 5-6 athletes able to compete for medals. If at least two of those medals will turn gold, I'd be happy

Thanks, mate!

Yeah, Salman could and even must have done better. I don't know the exact reason for his failure, but let us hope that he will get his chance again four years later.

You're so right about 73 kg category, they just wasted time. Moreover, in the last tournaments youngster Rustam Orujev performed really well. At present he is already in the Top-60 of this weight category and if he had received a chance a bit earlier, he would surely have had competed for a qualification spot...

And finally, our most unlucky fellow is Elkhan Rajabli. Just like four years ago, he finished the Olympic cycle on a position guaranteeing a license, but once again someone of his compatriots had to be above him. 4 years ago it was Mekhman Azizov, now it is Elnur Mammadli. So he won't compete at the Olympics again
