The past two weeks I've been searching through the many pictures I took in 2011. It's been quite an eventful year, so it's not an easy task to narrow it down to three defining moments.

But, with Festivus just a week away, I should have my selection ready in time.

For a second there I thought that was a picture of a hot tube amp.

Here are my first two entries, both taken with a Samsung Galaxy S2 Android phone.

The City

When viewing this picture, if you would have to guess where it was taken, what would you say? A small village in the Midwest? Would you believe New York City?

In September I took part in the Tunnel to Towers run and as I was walking to the starting line, I passed a street that looked to so out of place in a city famous for its skyscrapers and grandiose architecture that it just begged to have its picture taken.

If you would replace the cars with horse drawn wagons, it could almost be a scene from a western movie. A completely unexpected find for a haphazard tourist, and yet one that stands out as part of one of the moments of my 2011.

Forest Stump

In a way these pictures are related, even though there are a whole continent apart. When I was preparing myself for the Tunnel to Towers run, I started jogging in The Hague's forest. When I started out I would be exhausted after roughly 30 seconds already and it made me doubt if I would ever be able to complete the 5 kilometers of the race. Fortunately, with some expert advice from my own personal coaches, Pila and Punkette, I was able to improve enough to nail the 5K in little over half an hour. Since then I've kept it up and run in the forest two to three times a week now. With the change of the seasons it makes for an appealing visual experience as well.

As 2011 is not quite over yet, I'm not going to upload my third entry until the new year. After all, who knows what photo opportunities come my way in the next couple of weeks.

We will expect your entries, JawZ, approximately 30 minutes before deadline, right? But you always come up with something special!

Boyo, you're so lucky to be able to train in a forest. We only have 2 choices: the concrete sidewalk or the pot-holed roadway. Both of which I frequent daily; and thanks to our warm winter, the sidewalks haven't iced over and the roads are not yet filled with snow drifts. Keep running!

Thinking back to 2011, and to everything that happened, is enough to give one a headache. But as bad as that is, it can always be worse. As is the case with this poor guy.

Actually it's a sculpture by the artist Cang Xin, called 'hitting things just with Qi'. It is also my third entry in 'My 2011'

And as Qi is in fact the very energy of life itself, one cannot look back to the past year without it, nor can one look ahead to the year that is before us. May it guide us to many great photos in the months to come.

It's my Central Park. It can be a bit distracting at times though. One afternoon I was running through it and I could have sworn I saw a leaf hopping along the path ahead of me. The was no wind that day, so it couldn't have been blown across. Upon closer inspection it turned out to be a small frog, who due to it's brownish color almost managed to perfectly blend in with his environment.

See if you can spot it.

first of all, I wish you a happy new year!

I havnt taken a lot of pix this year as I was super busy with work.

Most of the year I spent infront of my pc, at work but also at home. So this is practically a typical pic.
1) homework

sometimes when taking a pause, I found scenes like that ...
2) sun-ny-flower

love how the light through the petals emphasizes the colors which makes it look like a shining sun-flower.

and on my way to work...
3) the wall

in this pic, taken in fall, i like the contrast of organic and anorganic structures. the colored leaves break the monotony of the grey vertical concrete structures.

as always pix were taken with my Canon Powershot D10

Even in the 5th league, by rules, you have to provide security for referees. But it looked like the security had a bad plans with refs as well

The referees going to be shot after the game?...

All photos were taken with a Panasonic Lumix ZX10. Let's hope I've resized them small enough for both the hamster-driven servers of XT and the balky nature of the IE browser that hates me.

1. 2011 was a year in which I felt as if something were missing, thus the missing subject in this photograph. It was taken in September at the Palace of the Legion of Honor in San Francisco.

2. 2011 was also a year that saw a lot of political theatre (in the US anyway), so the Situationist in me enjoyed seeing this bit of grafitti rubbed into the dirty window of a boarded up restaurant in Lompoc, CA, which read that "Jesus' restaurant is always open". Taken in July near a Motel 6 in Lompoc, which is as depressing as it sounds.

3. Every December a home near mine hosts an impressive collection of 50s aluminum Christmas trees (if you like that sort of thing). Only later did I notice what was on the television screen in the backround.

You know the scene it's very hum-drum
And my favorite song's entitled "Boredom"...

And here I thought I was the last IE user in the planet..p

1. Stuck
Here's a pic for those days where we feel stuck with our lives. Hopefully, whenever that happens, we could get unstuck soon.

2. Travel
I was attending a friend's wedding in the low-key Bengkulu in Sumatra last July. I arrived at night, got picked up at the airport and spent the night at one of my friend's relatives. This pic I took the next morning when I woke up. I remembered thinking: 'Oh wow, they've taken me to the countryside proper' and 'how can i get to the city from here? i want to go sightseeing'

3. Madman garb
One thing lead to another. In that Bengkulu wedding I met this crazy couple who turn out to be living next my door in Jakarta (what are the odds?) They saw me wandering around with my borrowed Nikon D60, and offered me to be their 'photographer' when we got back. I reluctantly agreed, thinking it's going to be a regular couples photo session. When I saw their costumes, I realized I was wrong. Anyway, the couple got married last November (11-11-11 p) and in the reception there's a screen showing their pics from when they were babies to present days, and some of my photos were shown there. It was amazing.
Taken with that borrowed Nikon camera, and edited with Photoshop.

Well.. Happy 2012 all!

Oh le le, oh la la.. Ser del Barça es, el millor que hi ha!!

1. New View

Shifted into a new place this year. And have this magnificient view to myself everyday.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

2. Peekaboo
Since the new place has a gym, I've been using this one rather than be a member in one of those chains. So was on my way to the gym, and it was the first day of winter and this scene of hte sun peeking from behind the clouds.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Both photos taken with my iPhone 4 using ProHDR.
