dedicated to Petrinha : Photo Contest October 2011

Hello everyone,

Hope you have had a good summer. For me, the months of blazing suns and unexpected storms have always been magical. Yet this year it was also tainted by a hint of sadness. As you all know, Xtratime lost a precious member at the beginning of July. We will never recover from the loss we have for Petrinha. All the more, her short life and her even shorter stay on XT affected almost all of us.

Since this is dedicated to Petrinha, I've decided to put pictures of her sea - Adriatic, taken in her city - Split.

All pictures are shot this summer with Canon PowerShot A1100 IS. Every photo is cropped and tuned in Photoshop.

bigger resolution:

2. Steel Sunset

bigger resolution:

3. Growing City

As someone, who lives 500 m from sea, I have zero pics of it.

*I do have Alexx coming out of sea like a young God, but that would be judgeing him and not the sea *

Kat, images need not be all about water. Think...sea of faces...sea of dreams...the sea...the subconscious...

Hi all,

Just wanted to enter for this month since it's for Petrinha, otherwise I doubt I'll make a habit of this. I'm not in it to win it, or even to get any votes, just thought I'd like to participate on this one occasion.

I am certainly no photographer, much less someone who should be posting in an arts sub-forum. Just quickly scanned through some old holiday snaps and picked these three out,

1. A lazy dog with a view
This was taken atop a hill/cliff face right near where the Sea of Marmara (via the Bosphorus) meets the Black Sea.

2. Eminonu by the Bosphorus
Suffice it to say, this is Eminonu in Istanbul from the other side of the Bosphorus. Pretty sure it was taken atop the Galata tower.

3. A sea of passion
Inspired by Bonita's "a sea of faces" comment, and the fact that this is a football site and Petrinha was a great football fan, I thought why not throw in a picture from a football match (Fenerbahce v.s. Ankaragucu, 2007).

And the one that missed the cut - http://i.imgur.com/ka7kL.jpg

Wow, so hard to vote this time.

Great work fellas, we'll make the pro photographers fear for their jobs.

Kudos to Ph.D. Fox for maintaining the project.

1. Big Waves in The Pacific Ocean.
Off Highway 1, near Moss Beach California. Taken with an Olympus Stylus, using Ilford B&W 200 speed FILM (which was the style at the time).

2. Storm in The Gulf Of Mexico.
Near Indian Rocks Beach, Florida. Taken with the same camera as above, but using Kodak Gold 400 speed FILM. (I remember that there was a huge storm coming in, or at least I thought it was a huge storm...the locals thought it kind of weak and not worth mentioning. O tempores o mores.)

3. Reflection, Rio del Diavolo, Venice.
The water in the Venice lagoon, comes, of course, largely from the Adriatic Sea. I think it comes from The Sea of Possibility, however. Taken digitally with a HP Photosmart camera, and, yes, that is my thumb in the lower left-hand corner, also digitally.

You know the scene it's very hum-drum
And my favorite song's entitled "Boredom"...
