I really look forward to your posts. Unlike the past contests, the March-April 2011 event has special meanings for me. The year has barely begun and traumatic incidents had already surfaced. Yet despite Japan's demise and Eric Abidal's illness, there is also change, hope and renaissance, from Tunisia to Egypt to China ... And this is exactly why we are here to post our pictures. Indeed, go out there my friends -- capture the unexpected.

Good luck, everyone!

Hope I didn't overwhelm you, Heike If I did, perhaps you will, for this contest, focus on just some of the items mentioned? (And, with your treasure trove of images, I'm cetain there are at least 3 that will fill the request )

I would like to use this opportunity to gauge how these topics will work for future contests, workshops, and/or special threads. Perhaps it will even generate ... more topics, no?

Why have I never though to enter these contests before! I'm gonna enter 2 images to make up for lost time

1st shot to enter, hmm i'll keep it simple and call it "Time"

Taken on Pentax K1000 using 35mm FP4 film ISO 125. Used a 50mm lens, but I can't quite remember what settings I used because this pic was taken nearly a year ago, I think the Fstop was on 5.6, can't remember the SS though. This is a scan of the original print. I used photoshop clone stamp tool to get rid of any little scratches. This shot was inspired by a Josef Koudelka shot.

Next one, let's call it "Tower block"

Well this one was inspired by Rut Blees Luxemburg's image called "Towering Inferno" which featured as the album cover for "Original Pirated Material" by The Streets. I was given a very open brief for a project to shoot any location genre that I wanted. I specificaly chose to shoot at night and capture everyday urban areas that are normal to people that live in cities but in some way try and make them look interesting This one was shot on a Nikon D60 with a 28mm lens. F11 on SS of 2 seconds. The long SS is how the tones in the sky were created which is what I intended.

Great decision to join, Tay-Che. You enriched the contest with the non-digital shot.

Punkette, you won't make me to try to put a wind on a stick.

It was tricky in the past when you bias either the clouds or the land, exclusively. Now you have high dynamic range like R10's technique.

Hey guys! Thought I'd have a try at this after taking a silly amount of photos on my mini travels recently... Another newbie though so go easy on me too

I'll try with a couple... Due to the certain festival I took them at, I think they'll class under "Light & Fire" at least.

1. We'll call this... Erm... "Grandiose".
Taken on my FujiFilm Finepix S1000.

2. How about... "Atomic". It's a fluke but I was really surprised at how this distant firework shot came out!
Taken on my FujiFilm Finepix S1000 again.

3. This one can be "Embers". The aftermath of the burning of a Falla, definitely appropriate for the theme, and I managed to get nice and close up. Very hot!
Also taken on my FujiFilm Finepix S1000.

Cool well that's me, hope you like guys

Beautiful photos, guys!!!
And yours, totow make me have reminiscence of Eco's The Name of the Rose in a way ... it's just royal palace instead of the monestery Cool pics, indeed, making the imagination grow ...

My pics r lighter and colorful passing the cheerful spirit onto me in this spring time ... might not be unexpected things (even seeing this beauty is always kinda unexpected to me, therefore surprising and breathtaking) ... but there r some windows, a tree and an ancient doorway saying that even with bad things happening daily in the world and lives, there r still places close or far away that make us happy ... hope, that there r still things and art humans and nature left for the generationes to come in which we can enjoy and learn ...

1.BLUE WINDOWS MEETING THE TREES ROOF
(Canon PowerShot A480)

Taken this weekend in Vienna, am sure u all recognised Hundertwasserhaus, an appartment house that brings ppl back to the nature .... saw it again after 10 years, the white color might be a bit more dirty since the last time i was here but other colors, oval shapes and these blue windows as an eyes to another world still make u enjoy life ...

2.ROYAL ORANGES (Canon PowerShot A480)

Taken last spring in royal gardens of the Seville's Alcazar, loved it much more then Alhambra ones, more vivid, bright and colorful ... perfect for reading a book under this orange tree refreshing with one of the fruits while your eye catches moorish patterns all around u ....

3.DOORWAY TO THE PAST
(Canon Ixus 40)

Taken in Petra, Jordan in the summer of 2007 ... after walking for lil less then 2 km suddenly in front of u opens this red city with it's Treasury changing it's color to different shades of red as the dusk comes, making u, even for a lil while, forget reality and travel through time ...

Els clubs són un negoci, excepte el Barça, que és un sentiment i una passió.

1) Ultimate Paris Experience
I love sunsets, I actually squealed when I saw this view from the windows of the Louvre. I was stuck in the museum and in these few minutes everything looked so beautiful.
I did not edit the picture, but used my camera's sunset setting
(Panasonic Lumix Tz 5)

2) 'Monsieur Champs Elysée - the street divided in 2 characters'
another picture from my Paris trip.
I don't like the street itself, but the picture is cool, since it shows the winter and spring on the same street. I thought it looked nifty since at first sight it looks like two pictures instead of one
(Panasonic Lumix Tz 5)

3) you can tell i like clouds and sunsets p

taken with my old phone.
this picture actually is the aftermath of:

ahhh Bonita, I had really trouble this time as its such a wide field.

i kept with the main topic the unexpected for the first 2

1) laundry day

a very strange scenery I lived in the venezuelan Orinoco delta last year. This is in a Warao-indian village, where people live in very simple "huts" that dont even have walls and are grounded in the river. The floor of the huts and the connection between the "huts" is of wood too. They sleep in handcrafted hammocks. The least thing you expect to see are washing machines...

2) Dorfkneipe

Who really expects a GERMAN "village bar" (Dorfkneipe) in a little village of Colombia?
While visiting the beautiful colonial styled Villa de Leyva of Colombia we were quite astonished when we suddenly came across this bar.

3) cloud sandwich
now im switching to clouds and light combined with a sunset from a different perspective. Took that with my Canon powershot D10 (as all other pics) during a flight over Spain.
