Good idea. It brings back memories of Once Upon A Time.

I'll have a look through my picture collection and upload some photos soon and post the story behind them.

I assume it's discovery in the widest sense of the word.

About "discovery."

Sky's the limit I guess although that's probably not entirely true I mean you can interpret the word "discovery" to be something found by/on/around/within/without the subject of your image ... and you can also say, "this is what I got when I discovered my camera no longer behaved."

Anyway, words usually surrender in the face of a great picture. So you decide what it means to you

I've been digging through my collection, but haven't found the pictures I was looking for. I expect to post my contribution soon though.

The pictures that I'm looking for are ancient ones, from before the digital era. They're printed on paper (don't laugh, that was normal back in those days), so I'll have to scan them in first.

i cant think of 3 pictures which fit the idea of discovery, so these 2 will have to do (click on them to get a bigger version)

taken late november 2007, in glasgow. this was in front of the art work triptych which was 3 screens of flashing lights and noises which would respond to people walking up to them (or whatever). the person in the photograph walked towards the lights, stared at them, reached out and then the lights started changing patterns and colours and she just stood there nervously wondering what the hell was going on.

here is a video of the art work to give a better idea

late summer / early autumn 2000. it felt like there was only 2 people left in the entire world...looking out at the expanse and there was no-one else, no sign of life - like discovering a new planet. so stuck the camera on the timer and ran over for a picture.

Here's my two entries. Couldnt decide which was the better photo to use, so you can take your pick...
These are old pictures from 2005, normal digital camera and no photoshop used.

Taken at my summer house in Turkey

Removed second picture

the third one might be sthg between two things:

1. A portrait of the Weimar Republic...
2. Or something unexistant, like Xavi being explosive or me having hair...

...but more accurate as I recall: I have no idea...was just a texture Blanca, Bonita asked me if I can post some pics and these ones are the only ones she saved from here (I don't even recall where I posted them before)...I'm still trying to find my Cds with textures, these ones belong from there...

Fangio's images are interesting. I don't know what they are, but it *does* seem like he discovered something.

To me the theme is a bit elusive though

Okay so I had trouble finding pictures in my collection that scream "discovery" but here is what I found.

#1: In transit

This was coming home from a trip to Italy and I was on the last connecting flight to Trondheim, really tired after a long day. That's when they announced the flight was going to be delayed.

#2: Flying with Ryanair

This was a trip to Milano in 2005 to see Milan-Juve and also meet up with a bunch of people from Xtratime on the occasion. Since it's rather a lot of money to spend on just 4 days, I was trying to get the cheapest possible flight and therefore Ryanair came to mind. It turned out to be the worst decision. Instead of connecting via Oslo which would have been [in hindsight] no more expensive and completely painless, I had to take the train from Oslo to Sandefjord, which takes 2.5h, and risk being late. When I got to the airport that Ryanair uses (and says is in Oslo, which could not be further from the truth), this is what it looked like. They had like 3 gates and the whole thing was the size of a big parking lot. When I was on the "shuttle" from the train station to the airport I really thought the driver had taken a wrong turn somewhere, cause there was no airport in sight until he pulled up to it.

So that meant I had to go by 4 airports in the same day: Trondheim, Oslo, Sandefjord, Brescia. Yes, of course, "Milano" doesn't mean Milano either, and the bus from Brescia takes 1.5h too. But aside from the horrible logistics, the trip was great, I really recommend it to Xtratimers.

#3: Holes for peace

This is from Oslo, just outside the Nobel Peace Center (where Al Gore was invited this week). They had this weird looking... artwork in front of the building. Kind of like a box with holes in the walls. Just as I was there there were two photographers taking pictures. The guy in the blue is doing a close-up, while the other guy is standing at the far end shooting the opposite wall, which is identical to this one. But from the picture it almost looks like they are shooting each other.
