Caravaggio in Chicago!

Not quite, but close.....

http://www.luc.edu/luma/news/aug05.release.shtml

apparently it is the entire collection of Caravaggio's works done in 1:1 ratio digital reproduction.

I'm going to see it for sure. The Art Institute of Chicago has no paintings by Caravaggio. I have seen the Caravaggios in the Louvre and also the one in the National Gallery in Dublin. But to see all of them together even in reproduction will be unforgettable.

Doesn't sound like a half-bad plan at all...
...like you said, even in reproduction it promises to be something to remember.

as it said in the article, many of the owners of the originals won't all them to be moved to exhibitions. If it's between seeing a digital reproduction or not seeing anything at all, there's no choice.

I've seen most of Caravaggio's work in original, and it's magnificent. Should be tottaly worth it.

Do you get that kind of excibitions often in the US Humbird? Or it's more modern art and design over there?

Love is the drug, and I'm a junkie.

I can't speak for the entire US, Amo. But we have all kinds of exhibitions all the time, however, unless you are quite wealthy, it's impossible to jet around the country to see a specific exhibition. The Art Institute of Chicago's own collection emphasizes the Impressionists, and has one of the top collections in the world. But since I don't like the Impressionists, I'm kind of out of luck.

And that's hardly difficult to understand (their unwillingness to move the works around, that is).

Still; an absolute no-brainer to go see it. Enjoy!

I cannot say I'm a big art connoisseur, but seeing Caravaggio's works at the Uffizi in Florence.... it wasn't shabby by any means! Enjoy, indeed.

...and do report back on how the digital presentation worked out (and what the setting was like), Humbird. I personally think it's a splendid idea, but I wonder if it'll be too sterile, because Caravaggio is very emotional in his realism I feel.

APATHY: A word now fallen into disuse due to a lack of concern for it.

Well...if it's one artist that comes to mind as being tough to carry onto digital production, it's Caravaggio. So it will indeed be interesting to see if it works out properly.

the exhibit was outstanding. After a few minutes it was just like looking at an original painting. I don't know how they were able to do it, but this may be the wave of the future for exhibits of very old masterpieces which really should not be moved. Putting them all together in one place like this is something which could not otherwise be accomplished.

I'd recommend this exhibit to anyone.

(part of) His collection can now be seen in the Van Gogh museum as part of the Rembrandt jaar he's shown there together with the Dutch master.
